[VR-Zone] AMD Trinity APU Preview: Evolution or Devolution? - Page 33

jtom you might think the main asset going for trinity is gaming but you are wrong.take its intel counterpart in the most optimised for intel winzip style program.then pit it vs trinity winzip (opencl version)i bet result will surize all but amd or intel .the main foe amd will face are vendor if my city is any indication.so place like futurshop bestbuy real store will be crucial to amd.cause you cant sell it if customer cant touch it .intel can but amd buyer need proof.amd has to show off .not be better .check apple they sold subpart for a long while.but people love the way they could interact with it

Its not being marketed as a gaming item though? Its price is going to put it in with budget machines. People who don't game at all will buy it too. It has great use for media and encoding, minor graphic design, Its cheap CPU/GPU power that is able to do more than just game... its not a console, its a cheap lap top.I Think that kinda fits the "average user" pretty well in my experience.

Nobody has said it was going to beat out intel in sale's, only that this is a highly marketable, very useful cheap product from AMD.

Here would be the other side. Anyway AMD managed to take market share (less then 1% it should be noted) in a soft quarter when sales actually dropped for both. I expect this year to be good for both companies and AMD may even continue to make inroads but I don't see Intel's dominance being threatened for a long time.
Anyway
Hmm apparently you missed my previous posts with links but AMD has taken mobile market share away from intel for 4 quarters in a row now. Even when losing Market share to Intel in other areas overal and in other areas in the same quarter, they have taken market share from Intel every quarter in mobile sector since Llano was released. Besides maybe its intial launch quarter.

Sort of. But showing your product at CES doesn't really do anything for the average consumer since they are unaware that CES and other large tech shows even exist. CES is forbragging rights and showing possible buyers/manufacturers your new tech in action.

I on the other hand was suggesting more of a localized approach. Inside of select stores (Best Buy and Fry's come to mind) simply display Trinity devices playing games (because to anyone who sees a machine capable of playing BF3, Crysis, Skyrim, or Batman sitting next to an intel machine) at the same price that isn't able to perform the same tasks the choice becomes obvious to the average consumer even if they don't play games.

Even after hearing that Intel is faster at other aspects IMO wont sway people because Intel (at this low price range) isn't capable of what Trinity is.

In the end Trinity can do anything that an i3 or i5 IB can do albeit sometimes 20% (random guestimation so don't crucify me) slower. But at the same time IB w/ HD 4000 is not capable of performing everything that Trinity can do. I believe this (if you inform the consumer) will be the deciding factor in how much of the market Trinity is able to convert to AMD based systems.

Sorry for any errors typing from my kindle.

As evidenced by the massive sales disparity between the two companies. And the vast majority of college students that want to play games are doing in on an xbox or playstation not their laptop. The fact you even think otherwise shows how out of touch you are. College kids get in a room together and drink and play video games not huddle around a laptop screen. Trinity basically will play your games at console levels which people already have consoles for. Again what is the point of this?

LOl... as if all College Students live in a dorm...  or, don't sit between class and play Minecraft, or GuildWars, etc..

You whole post is sumed up quite nicely in the first sentence of ur post^. You forgot to add the.. "In my world" part to the beginning of your post. As nobody cares what chip is in their mobile, just as long as it works and cost less.

Ie: has value..

I also know a lot of people who play game's on low end laptops.
I build system's and assist in people picking out system's/laptops on the side and the most common question is "What can I get in the $450-500 price range". Half of them don't even understand what's going on with electronics or PC's out side of "I press this button and it turns on.." and have no problem playing game's on the lowest of quality and love it to death, they just don't know any better and really don't give a damn in the long run. I only actually know 3, maybe 4 people with decent competent rig's/laptops and most of them don't play game's. They use their PC's to run AutoCAD/Photoshop/Media rendering. My assumption is that out of the people who have high end machines, less than a quarter actually play game's on them. Instead they have a nice PC for work related usage/making money.
Just last week I was called insane for for my sig rig by a friend of a friend. He walked into my place and his eye's go huge. He pointed at my PC and asked "what the hell is that thing, and what do you do with it?" he actually didn't think it was just a PC. When I let him play BF3 (he plays console) He was shocked that game's could look that great...and I have what I consider to a mediocre PC.
You should look into PC buyer's demographics, You might be shocked at it.
Which sig rig was it? They beat me or current rig?

Can anyone point me in The direction of finding a comparison that would gu e me a good idea as to how much of an upgrade the PD cores will make over the BD? I know trinity is based on PD cores. I have an 8120 in my pc.and i would like to see if it'll be a decent upgrade for PD. I would love to make my 8120 my htpc and upgrade to PD if it looks like it'd be worth it. Otherwise i may throw together an A-8 or A10 and keep my 8120 as is for my gaming pc and upgrade the gpu. No I'm not going intel, just like i am not going mac. The rudeness and immaturity of its fanboys push me away. Same reason i am buying a S&W m&p or springfield xdm over a glock. I know amd has its fanboys too but 9 out if 10 forums i read are fights. And they start off like this. Amd sucks, faildozer, bullcrapper, amd is a joke, u wish you had a 2500k or 2600k blah blah blah. No matter what i get, i wont use it to its full potential. So neither one is better over the otger for my use. Intel opens excel in 5 secs where amd takes 6.5 seconds. Lol i was using a pentium D before i built my 8120 rig.

Anyway sorry about that. I have a 6450 gpu to put in wharever i build for my htpc so it doesnt have to contain on chip gpu

Thanks for the guidance.
