i5 2500k p8z68v-pro at 4.5ghz core voltage 1.368V on air

Hello, extremely new here
I followed a manual somewhere in youtube and got my 2500k overclocked.
Temps may get to 85-90c on load, got hyper 212 evo, but im into a new casing with better airflow
using prime for about 3 to 4 hours it seems stable..havent tried any longer yet.
so far hadnt any problems yet..

But then I heard voltages over 1.3v is sort of bad. is that true?
so about my voltages, is this okay? any suggestions would be very nice
Thanks people!

Any increase in voltages will degrade the chip at a faster rate, but those voltages are fine, there are people who have been running at 1.4+ 24/7 since SB came out and are still using it. I can actually attain 4.5@1.285 on my chip tongue.gif but your not doing any harm. Always run prime for 12 hours minimum though, it could be free and clear until the 50th pass and BSOD on you. I would say after you confirm it's stable try lowering the volts and see what you can maintain that clock at, your temps will go down.

Wow thanks! biggrin.gif Ok I'll try that 12hours of prime, mybe with some extra ventilation somehow, coz it gets so hot. I'm using a cm centurion. Looking forward for a haf 912 adv. or a corsair mybe.

this is how the manual looks like, and i did everything he said, I set the voltage on 1.35v.
wow so you got below 1.3? All ive seen is above 1.35, or 1.4. But still Im not comfortable.

So basically i can just lower that core voltage alone without needing to tweak anything else right?
how much intervals should i go when lowering voltages, should i go down in steps like 1.30 1.25 1.20 ~ or bit by bit like 1.34 1.33 1.32 and so on?

Thanks again!

Turn your cpu current up to 120% if your trying to apply around a 20% overclock thumb.gif

Thanks! I pushed it up to 110%, yeah mybe I'll try with 4.7 or mybe daring 5ghz one day biggrin.gif

Im trying to lower some temps here..its always above 80 on load, even with the side panel off with some extra fan blowing in(not sure if it helps)..
but most say lowering voltages would lower the temps, but to0 low would give instability, so we should find that perfect spot, is that understanding of mine correct?

Im having 560 ti top SLI with 850w btw..before i overclocked there were like stutters..
Thanks for the responds!

Too low and it will be unstable, but if your lowering it in small increments every time you'll find the threshold pretty easy. I usually drop it 5-10 Mv every time on a new chip and run prime some more.
Also 80c seems like a bit high, are you on the stock cooler?

Sorry about the late reply.

Why cant i hit 4.5ghz? Im at 4.0ghz on stock and i can get 4.3, both stable but no matter what i put the voltage up to it bluescreens after 2 tests on lintel test.

Intel Burn in is more of a temp tester, I highly recommend Prime95.

NP, thanks! I got a hyper212evo, but last time it had 1 fan, now with 2fans and some voltage lowered on prime its around 75c.

then maybe I got a bit to0 excited, I dumbly lowered the voltages to 1.280
but havent tested for 12 hours yet, still testing..

but then I noticed that on idle, the voltages in cpu-z shows around 1.277, but on prime load it jumps to 1.288 or 1.290, fluctuating..is that normal?

2ndly, had intel speedstep enabled, but in cpu-z even on idle the freq is 4.5ghz..usually on idle its around 1.6..before i lowered the voltages, it was ok..
so is that normal?

Sorry guys, had too much questions, but I'm searching for it elsewhere to0..

Sorry I dont really know much if i can help..
but like in my post earlier, my 1st dumbly attempt was 4.5ghz on 1.35v..it was stable I think, at least no blue screen..
it was too hot too test for 12hours..but now im around 1.29 but still not fully tested yet..

if you go to as high as 1.35v for 4.5ghz would it be stable?

wow is 1.044 for 4ghz stable then?
