I think the most common skin will be omnimo, why not write up a big piece on it?

Partially because fedia and co documented it very well, also because I can't stand Omnimo. IMO a big part of the fun in RM is how the user needs to tweak the ini to change the skin to his liking. Omnimo is a good starting point, but the way its coded is so nested that the user can't learn anything from it. It's crazy efficient but no fun.

Thanks for including my guide, I'll add this to mine. I've a suggestion for the recommended skins, it gives full support (cover art and player controls) to pretty much any music player.

Do you want to add a game or replace a program with a game?

Like, i want to be able to replace one of those program icons, with an icon of the game which allows me to simply click it and it opens. Sorry, not sure if this is possible, still trying to understand raintmeter and how it works etc. biggrin.gif

How to change a shortcuts icon and path (Click to show)

Alright, so first of all, get the skin on your desktop by right-clicking any existing skin and clicking bar.ini (in my case as you can see it's already clicked and activated):

GD1G3.png

First of all, if you want to add your own icon (let's say I want to for Tribes Ascend), do the following:

Right-click, press Before Dawn bar.

TVv2e.png

Paste the icon you want in the Explorer window that you just opened (in our case you want a 64x64ish icon):

39jyB.png

Once you do that, right-click anywhere on the skin and press Edit skin.

Scroll down until you see this:

GN6ju.png

What you see here is a meter of type IMAGE, with x and y relative and absolute coordinates, the image name, and a native parameter (of the event type) called LeftMouseDownAction.

Let's take this in piece by piece.

ImageName= is the name of the image used as the icon here.

x=65r means x=65 PLUS the X of the meter preceding this one.

LeftMouseDownAction= is what you want to happen when the event is captured.

!Execute is one of many "bangs" in Rainmeter. Other examples are !Refresh (which refreshes the skin) and !RefreshAll which refreshes all of the skins.

We want to change both the ImageName and the LeftMouseDownAction.

Changing the image name is easy, just check what name and filetype your image is, and change it to that:

Code:
ImageName=TribesAscend.png

Now we need to grab the path to our game. If it's a Steam game, right click the game in the Steam Library, Create Desktop Shortcut, right click that shortcut, and copy the path.

Otherwise just find the path to the exe.

Examples:

Code:
steam://rungameid/9250410226111217664
"D:\Programs\Hi-Rez Studios\HiRezLauncherUI.exe" game=200 product=10

Grab the link to your game, and enter it like so:

Code:
LeftMouseDownAction=!Execute ["PATH" PARAMETERS]
LeftMouseDownAction=!Execute ["D:\Programs\Hi-Rez Studios\HiRezLauncherUI.exe" game=200 product=10]
LeftMouseDownAction=!Execute ["steam://rungameid/9250410226111217664"]

Save the file, right-click and Refresh the skin, and try it out.

You may want to edit your icon to be centered in a 59x62 sized png since that'll look nicer.

Here's the final product:

Code:
[shortcut1]
Meter=IMAGE
ImageName=TribesAscend.png
x=458
y=50
LeftMouseDownAction=!Execute ["D:\Programs\Hi-Rez Studios\HiRezLauncherUI.exe" game=200 product=10]
