Fans for EX series and EK rads

Thread Starter
Which fans would you recommend for EX series rads? I want to have as much performance as possible at maximum of 800RPM. I know that EX series is a thin rad, but I can't accept noise above 800RPM, the goal when chosing a fan would be as little noise as possible and as much performance as possible. I have 120 + 240 EX rads. Maybe go a bit higher if noise is smaller than my current Arctic Cooling F12.

Also, which fan would you recommend for my EK Coolstream? Its 47mm deep and 11fpi.

I watched this video from Martin:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AmF1Z0M8JY

But there is a hearable high pitched noise, at 2:09 (1150 RPM) but it disappears at 1450 RPM. I wouldn't want to hear that in my machine tongue.gif

Any suggestions?

Mast fans preform the same or the difference is so small you won't notice, so something cheapish but reliable. Yate loons, nexus basics or scythe slipstreams (these can be 800rpm at 12v) maybe?

Well the problem I have with Arctic Cooling F12 is that they make rattling noise when undervolted. And I can hear it easily. I'm thinking that If I had some silent fans then maybe I could go a bit higher than 800RPM...

Well, there's just not a lot of static pressure at that speed, so most fans will perform very similarly in that range, bringing it down to noise and price. Gentle Typhoons often get recommended for their low noise, you might consider some AP-12s or AP-13s if they're not out of your price range.

Is there any difference between 1850 GT and 800RPM GT if both are limited to 800RPM by fan controller?

They're going to perform pretty similarly, I don't personally have experience running AP-15s that low though, so I'm unsure if they end up with any motor noise or have difficulty at that voltage. I know they handle ~1100rpm quite well, and are honestly EXTREMELY quiet at that speed, so if you're not certain you NEED 800rpm, I'd probably go with the AP-15s. Someone else who's slowed them down that much might be able to chime in with specifics for you though.

GT are quiet but the 1850 has a point at a certain RPM where it will make an annoying noise, but they are good at 5v and 7v.

What are your temperatures like? and what you cooling? Is it a 6990 and a 6950 only?

All my AP-15's start up at about 3 V, so 4 V should be a safe minimum voltage to make sure that all fans start. On 4 V they run at about 550 rpm.

I have 6990, 6950, and 2500K @4.6 1.37v

at 800RPM with cheap Arctic Cooling fans I'm getting these temperatures, 32 mins of Furmark:

Your temps seem high but I don't have any experiance with multi-card setups but it does seem a tad warm not alarming though, I get around the 40°C on my oc 580 but I live in Scotland which is much colder than where you are.

If it is too warm for your liking you may have to either get a new rad, another rad or fans that are faster. I don't know your setup but I would get another radiator into that loop but a cheaper and easier rout is get some higher speed fans like GT 1850's or 1450's.
