There is definitely stuff I want to do better, but then again that’s why I always try to make things better.”

I don't complain about the game because it's not everything I want....I complain about the game because it's not everything they promised and said it would be.

Sure BF3 has great graphics and all and I still think it's a good game, but it's the small things that "shouldnt matter" that DO matter when they are missing.

PC UI and loading screens are a step back from BF2
Removed Commander which BF2 had with supply drops and ammo crates and artillery
That ugly horrible mini-map they gave us at launch was a sad excuse for a minimap (it's finally fixed now)
NO PC VOIP (this basically removes almost all teamwork from the game, basically not making this a team-oriented game and promoting Lone Wolfing)
Small clustered maps (only like 2-3 of the original maps were actually large enough for 64 players) and apparently they don't scale depending on size like BF2 did.
The hit detection/net code is pretty bad. There's not a lot that frustrates me more and makes me want to quit playing than being shot at and running around a corner and then actually dying like 1-2 seconds after you take the corner

I guess I was expecting BF3 to be a 10 at launch and I would rate it a 7 at launch and maybe about an 8.5 now. They still have some work to do though. They can't possibly call this game complete until they put VOIP in and the fact that consoles have VOIP but PC players don't, when this game is technically OUR game (PC players). I was really hoping they wouldn't even bother with a console version.

People on PC are never going to be satisfied with BF3. You know why? Because they were sold on nothing but promises. Only as time went on closer to launch, those "promises" started turning around and all the truth started coming out how consoles were BF3's main platform (Hell, even the game is balanced around 30 player games). PC doesn't even have VOIP, forced to run Origin/Browser, no commander (so conquest might as well just be team death match, little if any team work ever going on, no coordination), it took them 6 months to even add a proper squad menu and commo rose. Now it seems they're more focused on selling their expansion packs than fixing the game, saying "Alot of the fixes are in the expansion packs", so is that now a selling point? Leave BF3 as is and implement the fixes in the expansions?

Their battlebook just forces people to only focus on their score per minute (and post on the forums), so majority of people populate metro servers just to rank up and stat pad which is why its the "most popular map" ...ofcoarse, with the lack of a commander, why not just play metro, whats the point of the larger scale maps? It's basically just people who like flying or sniping, between that its just a team of engineers. Not to mention stat padders are never dealt with and the few obvious cheaters 90% HS ratio I've came across using LMG's have 2-300 hours of play without being banned rolleyes.gif

The way they did the netcode is just bad...client side hit detection, obviously geared for console networking left for PC players to deal with.

Nothing but promises only to slowly roll out some truths then finally release the game to find out the rest.

So yeah, DICE can't win. They lost by not making Battlefield 3. They made Bad Company 3. Sure, Battlefield 3 is an alright game if you weren't expecting much but for those of us who were really looking for that sequel to Battlefield 2 can't just get over the fact that Battlefield 3 simply isn't it, at least doesn't feel like it.

DICE Executive Producer Patrick Bach takes a look back at the patching process of Battlefield 3, its current state and how the gaming public views DICE’s AAA shooter six month later. Is it now, finally, the game it was promised to be?

Speaking to Eurogamer, Bach admits that Battlefield 3 could have seen a better launch. “Of course, three months before shipping, I would have loved to have said, screw it, let’s ship it six months later. But you can’t do that when you’re that close.” In a case such as this, he explains, “what we tried to do was make sure the game was good enough when we shipped it, and then post launch we have been updating it quite a bit, and also releasing these expansion packs, which also fix stuff in the game. There is definitely stuff I want to do better, but then again that’s why I always try to make things better.”

Reflecting on DICE’s experience with Battlefield 2 and comparing it to Battlefield 3, Bach mentions, “Battlefield 2 had the same cycle. When it was released people thought it was great. And then you had all the complaints. People still played it.” He continued, ”we patched BF2 several times. It wasn’t until 2.5 or something that people said, now it’s done. Now this is the game you should have shipped.”

Six months after the release of Battlefield 3, and after a number of substantial patches filled to the brim with tweaks and fixes, can Battlefield 3 fans say that they now experiencing the game Battlefield 3 was meant to be? Bach would believe so, stating, ”I completely agree. Now the game has never been better.” Though, he admits it has not come without its hiccups and challenges.

“It’s such a complicated game. I don’t know how many guns we have in the game. It’s plenty. Then, together with all the vehicles, maps, and gadgets, they all need to work perfect on all maps, and it needs to work the same on all maps,” explains Bach. While many gamers have taken a liking to the new patch, others have produced mixed results. ”I’ve heard some people say, I didn’t notice any difference. And I’ve heard people say, it was good, now you broke it. So when you say that, it’s a bit like, this is the patch that made the game complete. But is that a good thing or bad thing compared to the other people who didn’t notice anything, or say we broke it? We can’t win,” confesses Bach.

However, to take some good out of the less favorable results, the team at DICE at least knows that people care about Battlefield 3 and that they want it to be the best game it possibly can be. Bach explains, “I love the fact they notice the differences and the changes we made and approve of it, they get why we did this and that, because we spent a lot of energy looking at all the numbers. We didn’t have all those numbers when we shipped. We didn’t know about all the balancing issues. What I’m proud of is people trust us to stay in the game so when we release the patch they’re still playing and can actually enjoy the result of the patch. In some games you never get a second chance, you never get the chance to do your first patch.”

Bach mentions that it’s all about trust: “To me it’s trusting us to improve. I want to improve and do better, and it feels like our fans are actually aware of that.”

Is this the end of incoming patches for Battlefield 3? Not by a long shot. We are still expecting fixes for the currently bugged M26 MASS, as well an end to the PlayStation 3′s VoIP and input lag issues, among other things. This is, of course, not to mention the upcoming expansion packs as well. In fact, earlier, Bach promised fans “12-18 months of value for Battlefield 3.”

He stresses, “we are listening and we are not getting lazy. We know Battlefield is not a game where you just release it and then move on to something else. It’s a game where you need to have a team that works on it post-launch.”

Let’s hear your thoughts about the current state of Battlefield 3. Is it finally the game you’ve been expecting after the recent patches? Is it close? Or, does it still have a long way to go?

Enjoy! smile.gif

Hitboxes aren't broken. Hit detection is. It's not server-side, and is instead client-side. Meaning the lagger gets the advantage rather than the disadvantage.

I can't help but laugh at the people who say Battlelog and/or Origin ruins their BF3 experience. I just honestly don't see how it does.

You don't like launching the game from a browser? Why not? Just because it's different? So you'd prefer to launch a game, sit through splash videos that you frantically try to skip through, and then use a server browser in the game to then find a server you want. Then you get to wait while it loads the map/game and sit there twiddling your thumbs. Meanwhile, I connected to the server I wanted to about 2 minutes ago while you were still searching and I'm currently browsing OCN while waiting for the game/map to be completely loaded up. I guess the only complaint I can almost understand is having to have your browser-of-choice open when you're playing your game... but even then I still don't understand that complaint. If you're so strapped for memory that having your browser open ruins your experience, Battlelog isn't your problem - you should probably upgrade your memory.

And what's wrong with Origin? Oh it's another service to run on top of Steam? So? Is 75MB of memory really THAT much of a problem? What about when Steam uses almost double that?

No VOIP is simply ridiculous to not be included in any multiplayer game at launch. It's inexcusable. Starcraft 2 even has voice chat. Nobody uses it, but it's there. How is it that a game in 2012 doesn't?

The one really big problem I have with the game is the difference in 'eye-height' between first person and third-person views. It gets really annoying to try to shoot someone, only to see maybe a half-inch of the top of the head barely peaking out, but they can see you completely like they're actually visible from the chest up. I honestly don't get how a game engine for a 2011 release even has this problem. This basically means they designed it this poorly to begin with, and to that effect, it makes absolutely no sense.

Okay I know a lot of you are going to be a little upset about the news that has been presented but please, respect each other and the TOS. You are more than welcomed to voice your opinion provided you are not attacking fellow members on OCN and you abide by the TOS.
