I've got about 1.5k budget (after tax) so I was thinking of picking up an Xbox 360 (I already has a PS3 for blu ray) and a nice +40" LED TV with thin bezels. The thin bezels are a must, and I also want to to be relatively thin, but those two features go hand in hand anyway. Also, I am more than inclined to get Samsung.
What I wonder is how long will it be until 4k/8k +40" TV's will be out and relatively the same price? My guess is a 4k TV will be twice the price of a 1080p one, at the same size when the 4k gets released, and if that's true then I sure as hell won't get it right away.
But if 2013 brings a 40" 4k/8k TV for 1.5k then I guess Ill have to wait, because I also don't want to buy another TV a year later.
So is it a good idea to get a 1080P now (September)?

I don't think you're going to see 4k or 8k tvs at a reasonable price for a long time - there is still quite a few things that will need to be worked on in order to get those main stream - check out a 30" monitor, they are still super expensive for monitors and they have hardly changed in the many years that they have been out.

Even when they do come out, you have to remember that your ps3 / 360 cannot use those higher resolutions, nor can most dvd / blu-ray players.
