ADVICE NEEDED! ASUS P6T Deluxe LGA 1366 Issues

Alrighty guys, been on the forums for a bit and really loving the OCN Community and all your help! I am in a bit of a situation so let me tell you what's going on:

I have an Asus P6T Deluxe V1 mobo and everything was going well until it stopped recognizing my tri channel memory. It is only recognizing 2 of my 3 G-Skill DDR3 1600 memory. So only 4GB of 6GB is being recognized. I have been reading the forums and this is a WIDELY known issue. I have tried all the recommendations and still have no luck getting my mobo to recognize all my RAM sticks.

Now here is the sucky part; I am out of warranty and I believe that one of my RAM slots has stopped working(the A1 slot). So, basically triple channel is a no go for me now. My question is: should I just buy two 4GB(8GB total) corsair DDR3 1600 and keep using my P6T without triple channel? Is there a big difference going from 6GB DDR3 1600 triple channel memory to two 4GB(single channel?) corsair DDR3 1600 memory?

Secondly, I am using an i7 920 C0/C1 (Crappy OCing) CPU. I am thinking of upgrading to a higher up CPU like the i7 980 .

Should I spend the money to get more memory and a better CPU to keep this going for a couple more years or say screw it and get an 1155 rig? Help and advice would be appreciated! Thank you in advance thumb.gif

Rather than spending money on a bunch of brand new components, I'd recommend taking care of your motherboard and then moving forward with other hardware plans when you can.

If you spend a lot of money on RAM / CPU, what if the SATA controller on the board decides to go too, or what if this, that, etc? Get that board taken care of first so you can move forward with everything else. Don't limit yourself just because your board isn't fully functional!

Call Asus, there's a chance you may just still have warranty thumb.gif

Thanks for the help E-Peen! (LOL!) Its 36 months for warranty and I am 6 months over that period. But yeah I agree, I will most probably just order some more tri channel memory for $45 and see how many fire up with 6 sticks in. No point in getting a 980X on a dying platform even if it is only $500 (which is still EXPENSIVE, but better than new for $1100 stun.gif ). I'll stick to your advice and run this baby until I want to go over to a new socket. Thanks again!
