Screen windows freezing ( pic included )

Hey guys, Looking for some help.

First off, I don't know if this is in the right spot, notsureif.jpg its a video card issue or not.

Basically, when i'm working, quite often, when minimizing a program or something, the background will show through, and other windows and stuff, (see pic)

My home rig never does this, but its a brand new power house, and my office rig is circa 2002 hardware ( standard dell p4 ) Windows Xp

is there any way to prevent this?

You can see the blue background showing through some of the windows tabs, and windows that are supposed to be behind ones are on the front. ( the black boxes are my work files blacked out, ignore this )

its not a major problem, but very frusterating, as the only way Ive found to solve it, is to minimize everything, and then restore them again.

First suggestion would be to make sure everything is up to date in terms of drivers for the video card, followed by system updates. I would also try and work with less windows open and see if the problem persists, or do you already know if it does? Aside from the previously mentioned causes I have also seen this happen when a person just works too fast for the system, opens windows quickly before others are handled by the system.

I suppose I could be too fast for the system, I'm used to my home system where I can go as fast as I want, and with the limited ram and processing power, I suppose that could be a reason why.

If you have to deal with this rock of a machine often, see if you can toss in a little more memory. If it is a work machine provided by work then I can only imagine they skimped on everything.

Yeah, it has a cluster of differnt ram sticks at different speeds.

I would love to toss new ram in it, but 4gigs of DDR2 ram is not cheap, much more expensive than DDR3

My IT guy does not own a cell phone, has a beeper, and was blown away when I fixed one of the comptuers in the office ( a hard drive crashed, and I told him I could have it up and running in an hour vs taking it to a shop )

So.. in a way, i'm getting trolled like a mo-fo, as in the computer i use does not meet the minimum system requirements for my program.
( if I switch from some 2D views to 3D, ram is eaten up and instant crash.

Although, recnetly, 2 machines did go out, and they were replaced with some Dell i7 2600's.

( i've been trying to find a cheap dual core to "hide" at my desk to work off of ) but everything I found is
really big, or too expensive. ( i really want a super compact dual core )

4 gigs of DDR2 will cost me the same as 12-16 gigs of DDR3... no bueno.

Hhahahahahahaha....wow.

When I read that I got this picture in my head of your IT guy......

1980's Glam Rock look with his 3 pound Motorola Pager on his leather belt, and a "high tech" Palm Pilot 1000. As he walks up and down the halls of work he whistles modem noises, replicating the various sounds of the different connection speeds!

lol very close actually, except for the 80 rock, he is more of the late 70's hippie.

long grey hair, bell bottom pants, drives a VW, Oh, and when I was talking about my new rig at home, he asked me what pentium number they are on now.

So, needless to say, when he decides he is done working here or something, i'm going to be gunning to replace him as the new IT guy.

He is a nice guy and everything, but with an Old CEO and a IT guy who is 10 years in the past, its hard to talk them into upgrading anything.
( IT guy hates windows 7 cuz he can't figure it out )
