Friends CPU overheating (Most likely)

Thread Starter
So I was helping my friend with some computer stuff, and I took his CPU (Intel e2200) fan to check underneath and blew a bit of dust out, reset the cpu back in its place and put the fan back in. Well now it often doesn't start, beeps about four steams of beeps before it starts (As I remember 4, I could be wrong).

Not cool.... Whenever I reset CMOS it seems to boot so first of course I thought it might have been a bios issue. But quickly I traced it too the CPU. In bios idle its 70-72c. It also explains that in CPU-z the multiplier keeps changing from 6 to 11.

72c. That's way to high. Help?

1). Is the fan connected to the header on the mobo
2). Are ALL 4 retention clips locked securely in place? If even 1 is not, the gap could cause just enough heat to build up, preventing your system from booting.

I have tried to blow the heat sink out (Though its wasn't too dusty and isn't anymore). It might have a bit of dust. The fan is connected though (Of course tongue.gif) and I suspected the fan but I've taken it in and out multiple times. Those fans are finicky and I hate those damn clips. I'll check it again later today. As I said it's my friends computer so I'm not even close to it.

Yeah, you really should take the heatsink off, clean it really well, and reapply TIM.
