Gains from upgrading to 3570k from 955?

Thread Starter
See sigrig.

A few questions regarding Ivy Bridge.
a.) About what percent of FPS would I gain going from my 955 (@3.6) to a 3570 (@4.4) in Battlefield 3?
b.) What approximate CPU temperature would I get with a Hyper 212 and a room temperature of 25C at 4.4ghz?
c.) Do you suppose Intel will pull a revision that will address and fix the core/IHS heat issue soon?
(basically what I'm asking is if it's worth it thumb.gif)

Also, is this a good motherboard for the price?

A.) You would probably seen some FPS gain, but I wouldn't know exactly how much.

B.) A Hyper 212 should keep it cool, but at 4.4, under load, it'll get hot.

C.) Yes, that ASRock is a VERY good motherboard.

A) In BF3 at reasonable resolutions (1080p or higher) you will see very little gain. BF3 is very GPU limited.

B) Temps are not a good metric of anything really. It is hard to say how hot a given CPU will be. You should be able to do 4.4-4.6 with that cooling without getting too hot.

C) There is very little point for Intel to do that. Using transistors that overclock well will probably lower the efficiency of the CPU. Furthermore, it would step on the toes of their LGA2011 offerings.

D) Try find some reviews for it but from the last year or so it has seemed the Asrock has put out some pretty good motherboards.
