Backup Software for Individual Files?

Thread Starter
Im after some backup software that will backup selected files and folders to a specified drive. This can't be proprietary and I need to be able to browse the drive when I want, without having to load up the program and doing a restore. Effectively, the program will just do a File Copy to a specified location.

I guess it could be more of a syncing tool. What can people recommend?

Hello if your looking for a windows backup software i must say you should try genie timeline solutions, great software that does exactly what you've mentioned above.
Hope it would work for you.

Cobian Backup is amazing. It is 100% free and does a 1 to 1 backup so you don't need its software to browse the backups. You can even schedule backups and have it email you the log file. I have it implemented in multiple business locations and it has yet to fail me..

use microsoft synctoy on a schedule, say every 15 minutes to sync the directories.

I'd suggest freefilesync over MS sync toy. MS sysnc toy is weird sometimes and if you delete the sync data file in a folder then the whole folder gets resync'd rather than just the files that where changed. I'm starting to make some quick guides on freefilesync tonight actually. It is my favorite sync program by far. biggrin.gif

Also, with no GUI you can use robocopy.

lol, yea, I <3 robocopy, the only thing to watch out for is open files during the sync, but I've never really had an issue with that and there is a work around. FreeFileSync actually works around that issue. So it is my go to program now.

If you need help with anything just ask. thumb.gif
