$250 GTX570 or perhaps a more restricted $330 GTX580?

Thread Starter
So I'm stuck at a crossroads here as I need a card shortly for a family member's build....should I go for a $250 EVGA GTX570 (-KR version, so 3 year warranty) or a $330 Galaxy GTX 580 MDT version (supports 4 displays but 3 of which are limited to 1920x1080 while one is a display port?

It's only an $80 difference but the GTX580 does seem a bit limited in connections. And if it matters, it'll be running in an X79 rig.

It depends what that person is doing with their rig. What games do they play and how many displays and what resolution (1080 I assume).

Basically, if he plays BF3 or has multiple displays, get the 580 hands down.

If they only have 1 display at 1080 and doesnt play very graphically intensive games, get the 570.

Also, the 580 will help a bit more for future games as well.

I would certainly go for the Galaxy GTX580 MDT.

I do not see how its connections are 'restricted'. It has three mini HDMI outputs and one DP output. And it comes with a number of connectors/adapters as well. If you are connecting only one monitor with DVI input, there is a DP-to-DVI adapter included. And if you wish to connect a second monitor, there are also 3x HDMI-F to DVI-M adapters provided. I do not think you will do 3-monitor Surround as the GTX570 is incapable of.

Considering the GTX580 is more powerful, has a good factory pre-overclocking, has excellent 3-fan cooling with backplate and is priced merely $80 more than the GTX570, this makes it the sure way to go, IMHO.

A fairly comprehensive review is here:-

If you don't mind me asking, where are you finding this 580 for so cheap?
