Yeah this is not a bad plan, and people on here are going to be able to tell you how much warranty it has left. Look for used parts with transferable or serial number based warranties that are 3 years and you will find plenty of used cards still worth the money. People are still wanting a lot for their used GTX 480s even with new ones being 210$, I think that's what the last post trying to sell four was asking for the exact same EVGA card used........

A used 560ti or 470 would probably be do-able if you watched the forum classifieds on your budget, just pay attention to the brand.

Would I even need a 480? I only have a 1080p monitor. I think the 470 would be more reasonable.

Depends on how much eye candy youre wanting. A GTX470 will play any game on the market right now at 1920x1080 at max or near max settings. However, games like Crysis 1 and 2, Batman AC with DX11, BF3, Metro and a couple others can really push a GPU. Youll still get very good frame rates with very good settings with these games but a GTX470 will struggle to get you out of the 30's at full settings. My 5870 which is comparable to a GTX480 gets 38 fps in Metro at max settings, stays in the 40's in Batman and Crysis 2 and in the mid 30's in Crysis 1. But these are about the only games thatll be this tough. 95% of the games out there youll have no problem running at full tilt settings and getting over 60 fps.

Boom ... done.

I cannot possibly stress how great of deal this is ... and these cards are amazing. I love, love, love mine, been rocking them for 1.5 years and still not even considering upgrading. I would never sell mine for $140.

+ They will SLI with any 470 as well, just so you know. That's because it *IS* GTX470 once it's unlocked.

SLI 470's with mild OC = 680 or 7970 in performance, and at their max OC they match up well with those cards at their max OC's.
