question about ivy bridge and motherboard compatability

Thread Starter
I know this is probaly a pretty stupid question, but if I were to buy an ivy bridge i7, could I use it in a p67 board? Or do I need z77 or z68?

I was under the impression it would work in any 1155 board (with limitations of course).

Is this the case?

Also, could someone please clarify the advantages of z77 vs z68, or p67. I realize z68 and z77 have pcie 3.0 and p67 doesnt, but what other advantages are there?

If the manufacturer supports it with a BIOS update for IB, yes. Most do.
