Gentle Typhoons worth it?

Thread Starter
After reading on this forum and a few others I'm planning on upgrading all inside case fans to the 120mm Gentle Typhoon ( this model 1,850 rpm: 0.083 A - 28 dBA - 98 m³/h) There will be a total of 5 of them inside my case for a push/pull set up. I was just looking for some input from people who have used these or who currently own them on what they think as far as noise level and cooling capabilities. I currently have a hypermaster 212 for my cpu cooler also. Thanks for checking this out thumb.gif

Just so you are aware, 5 of them will be 35dB.

Hey thanks for that, you learn something new everyday. I'm really not to picky on noise, I usually have headphones on anyways. thumb.gif

For intake I would use Air Penetrators but Gentle Typhoons are amazing for coolers.

I personally have GTs as case fans as well as rad fans. I wouldn't have it any other way. Yeah I can hear them, but it doesn't really bother me as I either have music on or have headphones on. There are still better choices for case fans though. (None of which I can really name, since other than GTs and a few Gelid fans I don't really have an expertise on this)

Are you running a fan controller? If you are, I always get the next model up than I'm intending to get, since I can control the speed. I would recommend getting the 3000RPMS, you have a lot more airflow if you need it (feeling like an overclocking session, etc.), but if you want the 1850 RPM or even something like 1400 or 1000RPM you can always turn them down.

I think for only a couple dollars more, it's worth having extra headroom, but that's just me.

This is what I just did. I got the AP-29s. At max three of them are about 53db at 2 feet away. The only problem with them is if you want to connect them to a fan controller, you will have to either take the cables off and solder new wires on, or splice the power from the 4 pin molex into the 3 pin fan connector needed for a fan controller. It wasn't hard, and didn't take long, just another step.

Order from FrozenCPU and select the "change to 3-pin" option. It's more expensive, but it's better to do it right the first time than have to fiddle around with a soldering iron and all this other crap. Good fans are gonna cost you, all depends on your budget.

So are you saying with x5 GT inside the case on top of a hyper 212 cpu cooler I wouldn't be able to overclock? I'm currently building a i7 2600k platform and def planned on clocking to at least a 4.5.
