Don't get me wrong, I love linux but for me it's crippled by software support. Running a game in wine just isn't the same. The reason I point out ease of use and user friendliness is that for 80 percent of users out there they just want it to work. With linux as it is, at some point you HAVE to use terminal. That's just not exceptable for people who are barely able to run a computer by the gui interface (small kids, older generation, non computer saavy people). Until linux detaches itself from the NEED for terminal it just won't be able to compete with MS or Apple (trust me I'm rooting for linux but I'm still waiting for that change). Part of the problem is the linux community. Their so embedded in their ways that they don't want to accept that it's a needed change.

Linux will never detach itself from the terminal mode simply because it is a server oriented OS and that's where it shows it's power. But the distros are coming out with more user friendly flavours.

And that's precisely why it will never be the OS of choice in most homes. The one thing the community fails to understand is that NEEDING the terminal and having it available to USE are two very different things. As it stands now to simply install a driver can be a nightmare because you have to use terminal (in some cases). That's something that an average user doesn't want. In an embedded os solution like a laptop that's not so much an issue but even then what happens when you want to plug a device into the USB slot and need to load a driver for it. Without a self executable install that you just double click on and hit next a few times it's not going to fly with the everyday user who just wants it to work and not have to do anything to make it work.

But anyways, let's get back to benching... tongue.gif

Yep it's much easier. I remember when I used to setup servers way back in 95-96 the GUI was almost non-existent in terms of admin apps. Heck I still use the terminal mode.

Scored HUGE today. So we're out and about and went to wally world and as we were walking by electronics I saw that they had a hisense 55" LED floor model on sale for $500. I looked it over and it has the same glass type bevel as last years samsung and the same back panel as samsung sitting next to it with just the air flow cutouts being slightly different even had the "smart tv" samsung logo on it. So I dusted off the charm skills and actually talked the wife into getting it. Took it homw and after hooking it up found out that not only is the picture amazing and it's LED but it's a true 120Hz tv and is 3D capable. Just have to get the active shutter glasses. Even has 2D to 3D conversion built in, built in wifi, web browser etc. SCORE!!. And on top of that I'm moving the 52" Sharp into the office (computer room) hehehe. To top it off I get home and the box is sitting between the screen door and the door with my motherboard that wasn't scheduled to be delivered till the 17th. Wooooohoooo. Now I'm going to have to rush through painting the case since I already started thinking I had till thursday.
