We got our hands on an 3770K. and manage to overclock it to 5 Ghz keep in mind that this is on a low end ClosedLoop.(by asetek)
and temps flew up all the way to the TJmax. 105c.
(yes i know its a ton of voltage on the CPU) but it was needed even to pass cinebench. @ 1,43 it would BSOD.

This was done in association with Hawker. smile.gif shout out to him

My i7 2600K @ 4.9Ghz Scores 9.65 in Cinebench and reaches 85 Celcius with a Scythe Mugen 3 as comparison and is 24/7 Stable at the moment.

that chip was probably thermal throttling, conclusion? you cant push 1.488V trough a 3770k on a low end asetek AIO cooler and get it working smile.gif. downclocking to 4.8 with way lower volts will probably give you a higher cinebench score and longer chip life while performing better than 2600k@4.9 and be stable 24/7.

wasn't throtelling we checked that to make sure.
the time it reached 105 was @ the end of the run.
Even @ 4,7 it still wasn't faster than my 2600K(@ 5Ghz) weird enough(i can only speak for synthetic benchmark cinebench).

Stock VS stock cinebench run turned out to be 1 point faster,( in the advantage of IVY that is)

it hitting 105 means it was already thermal throttling, even at the end of the run it probably still impacted the results.
what were the scores like @ 4.7, they should be about equal at that point.
stock i think the 3770k has a bit higher core speed(+turbo) +ipc probably put the ivy ahead, the fact that it is a whole point seems kind of weird to me though? was turbo enabled on both chips?

4.6GHz
338
4.7Ghz

4.8Ghz

This has nothing to do with throttling, all 3 scores + the ones allready posted are clearly in line with each other.

And indeed, Stock 2600k runs at 3,4 Ghz. 2770K runs at 3.5 Ghz with a higher turbo.

oh just noticed, those chips are revision 8(stepping E0) which is the ES stepping, it might not be much, but it could effect performance wink.gif also comparing 2 systems (hawkers/jayless' ) is never going to be completely accurate as small things like RAM/motherboard might effect performance by a tight bit(or did you test this on the same system?).

i appreciate the testing though, i think it is quite soon to make strict conclusions about a 3770k's performance from these results.

Thanks for posting. Looks like Ivy may be Intel's Bulldozer.
