HELP: AMD Athlon II X2 245 stuck at 3.5ghz - newbie

I can't go higher than 3.5ghz? but i'm stable with 3.5ghz+Stock Vcore on Prime95 with good temps.

do you think it is my motherboard or something is limiting my OC?

I will get an aftermarket once i make 3.6ghz stable in Prime95.

Motherboard: ASRock k10n78m pro (Nvidia 8200 Chipset).
Ram: Apacer DDR2 800 2gb x2.
Psu: Generic 500 watts
Cooler: Stock
Gpu: Sapphire HD 6670 gddr5
Hdd: 320gb WD

FSB 250x14.5
Ht Link: currently at 2000 mhz
Vcore: currently at 1.45v
Spread Spectrums Disabled
CnQ Disabled
Chipset voltage from 1.1v to 1.2v
NB voltage 1.3v

I'm getting BSOD at Prime95.

everything i did:

*Raised Vcore up to 1.5 = still BSOD at Prime95
*Tried lowest ram frequency = still BSOD at Prime95
*Loosen timing = still BSOD at Prime95
*Lowered HT link = still BSOD at Prime95

With your motherboard and your power supply, I would be happy of 3.5Ghz. Anything over won't boost your gaming experience at all and may only shorten your PC lifespan.

ok thanks, i decided to keep my processor on stock for longevity.

I will just keep my money and invest for a Quad Core soon.

That is a good idea, you should change the power supply at the same time.
You can find some Phenom 955 for cheap these days and they do pretty good in term of gaming.
You'll have to change the motherboard and the memory also but if you can find a used package that would be the best band for your buck.

A good asus motherboard and a 955 Phenom with 4Gb of ddr3 for around $200 would be a very good price and a huge upgrade.

Have a nice day !

The Athlon II 245 has C2 stepping and some of those CPUs don't overclock much further than 3.5-3.6GHz. Get yourself a CPU with C3 or E0 stepping instead if you want a chip that can overclock beyond 4GHz.

As Abs.exe suggested it is a good idea to upgrade other components in your system too, especially if you intend to buy a Phenom II.

It won't go higher. Be glad to be on 3.5GHz.

I pulled my 240 up to 3.4GHz on stock cooler but the temperature was too high. Nice overclock
