Replace PS2 Optical Drive

Thread Starter
Greetings.

I've got a PS2 with a completely shot optical reader. The tray and such works fine, but slowly I've lost the ability to play all games. I'd like to repair it if possible. I have a salvaged DVD ROM from a laptop. Is there any way I can replace the PS2 optical drive with the one that I have? Any other suggestions, instructions or warnings for repairing the drive? Thanks

NO! Do not use a DVD ROM Drive - It will not work and also may completly screw your PS2.

Check ebay for the replacements - they are around £15 and some include installation

try cleaning your current one by getting either a cleaning disc that u put into the playstation or opening it up, most of the time the optical gets dirty or if you have an older playstation 2 then there is a gear the channels what media your system can play, if you search Google there are reviews on how to fix this problem. Also hitting the restart button repeatedly for about 30 times can help solve the 2nd issue but sometimes it doesn't.
