Why do people hate call of duty games so much? - Page 3

I'll be quick

Small Maps, small amount of players
Twitch action based game full of stupid pronning, hopping, run and gun vs. skill and strategy

Maxed out game engine with very potential left, - stifling innovation
Every sequel feels like nothing more but a re-skinned game after the next one, also stifling innovation.
Hence new games are barely different game from COD4.

Could care less about the hipster anti-popular attitude. And tbh, i loved the single player, plot and adrenaline rush action and I'll continue to "play the single player" in future games. It's just a game, and i feel childish defending something as trivial as this.

I'm probably missing a couple points, but meh i don't really care enough about the cod series to think about it so meh. Played like minutes of the free steam weekend and deleted it after a couple plays due to the boredom.

TBH, I think the game, and disliking the game are both popular culture! But I was referring originally, to the game itself.

Graphics have not gotten any better and will not until the new consoles come out.

They don't wanna compromise the 60 FPS. Sure Battlefield looks great, but it runs at 30 FPS and 30 is unplayable.

They want to keep the game at a constant 60 FPS that is why the graphics haven't improved and will not improve until the new consoles come out.

Then your rig needs an update... I play at ultra and most certenly DO NOT get 30 FPS... on either of my rigs I pull a very constant 60 FPS with MINOR DIPS in FPS.. Lame reason for lack of creativity is lame.

I don't hate CoD at all. I don't like what it's become though. My first entry into the series was MW2 and I loved it. I'm even considering renewing my Live subscription just so I can play it again. I bought Blops for PC and had to stop playing it because I didn't want to pay for all the DLC. I can't get into MW3 because of the maps, they are all just awful... Except for that one at the construction site.

But yea, I think a lot of people dislike the games because they feel rehashed. It doesn't help that they are mega popular either. People just love hating on popular things.

A fair few people hold this view it seems. I felt like one of the biggest 'rehashes' for me was Fallout: New Vegas but i still poured 80+ hours into that and loved it.
Does - "If it aint broke, dont fix it" - apply to video games?

No! at least when it come's to massive manufacturer's leading the way. With that type of thinking we would still be playing 16-bit black and white game's. When it come's to company's that develop these game's. and if that was their thinking they should have just labled the game as a "patch", or "expansion" like the rest of the game designer's out there.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" only apply's to us as consumer's who have VERY limited money in comparison, we simply cannot afford to throw money at such things. imagine if AMD and Intel had this form of thought when planning out the next line of CPU's. You would be pissed I bet.

A lot of the community feel betrayed by Activision and Infinity Ward. The game started on PC, COD1 and COD2 (and UO) were all very successful and were really big games competitively, they supported mods and had dedicated server files. COD4 was also similar to these although it had started to stray towards "consolisation" with the levelling up etc.
The biggest blow to most, including myself was the complete removal of dedicated servers in MW2, this was a massive 'sticking the fingers up' to the very community who got the game to where it was. It effectively killed the competitive community for the Call of Duty series, which was a large one. No dedicated servers meant no LAN support, it meant P2P networking which from an online point of view is not suitable for competitive gaming. The lack of mods also contributed to this, ProMod and other mods were crucial to the success of the competitive community in COD4 and previous COD games. From COD4 onwards there is also the lack of innovation and progress in the series, there are very minor differences in features and gameplay between all games since COD4.

Effectively, they "sold out". They betrayed their fans for profit. From a business standpoint it was a fantastic move, the shareholders have been laughing all the way to the bank at each successive release.
