I played through the open beta and I like the style and some of the changes they made (still dont get the skill system reduction and everything, but I havent done a lot of reading to understand it, coming from D2 it made no sense to me), and if they offer another f2p weekend or something I'll play again, but I don't want to purchase the game (even though everyone else and their mothers will) because I don't want to vote for the always-online system.
I have purchased every game up to SC2 from blizzard( and played WoW for a few years). They lost a loyal customer frown.gif.

I understand where you're coming from. Unfortunately, people like you will eventually have to give up, or you'll end up missing out on some of the best games frown.gif

More power to you if you can bear not playing the greatness that is, D3.

I agree. As much as I don't like the always online DRM, not buying it isn't going to do anything. So what if a few thousand don't buy the game because of it, when there's several million others that will. It not like they'll be hurt by it to any great extent. Might as well just give in to it now. It's the way all games from all publishers are heading.

I know, it makes me sad that it has to come to. To game or not-to-game is the question. I'm the only one that will miss out, but I'm hoping CD Project has this amazing (mostly)DRM free franchise or something happens to change way the market is going. I know it's not going to happen, but a man can hope.

Maybe one day in the future, I've got so many other games to play right now and not enough time, so I'm ok with it. My resolve is strong, can't say what's going to happen after I run out of other games to play if this trend really does cement itself into the industry. frown.gif

I'm a minority, woe is me redface.gif.

You should research how many games took a sales hit because of public perception. DRM and selling essential in-game items or DLC are the 2 most controversial issues with games - Diablo 3 has them both. The Diablo name isn't nearly as strong as it once was - this is something Blizzard doesn't seem to understand. Sure, you have thousands of people who are loyal to the franchise, but you also have about a decade of new gamers that don't know or don't care to know Diablo.

I'm not saying the game will be a failure - I'm saying it isn't the sure-fire cash-cow that they assume it is - it's been 12 years after all. Blizzard really needs to tread carefully... a few fan threads don't necessarily reflect the millions of potential buyers you're trying to attract.

I wouldn't say that Diablo 3 has "must buy" in-game items or DLC. The only items being sold for money are in the real money auction house which isn't a direct sales cash shop run by Blizzard. All of the different items are found / crafted by players, not Blizzard directly.

Also, no one is forcing you to even use either auction house in Diablo 3. They are only there as a way to make some money (either in-game currency or real $ ) and as a way to save some time on trying to farm items that might help you.

The only upcoming DLC that we know about is a very large patch that will bring PvP to the game. Blizzard has already stated that it will be free, so that really is a non-issue.

Personally I believe that this so called DRM issue is really a very minor issue. It's not like they are only requiring you to have an always on internet connection to just do a DRM check. The actual game is built much more like an MMORPG then a standard RPG game is. All attacks, drops, monster spawns, and random map generation is handled by the server.

Now, why am I glad that Diablo 3 has every important decision made by the servers being run by Blizzard? Do a Google search for Diablo 2 duping and you'll have your answer. thumb.gif

Now, back on topic:

I don't actually think that the percentage that they are taking is all that bad. With most online games you don't actually own anything in the game, and this is the first real popular game that allows you to sell your in game items for money. The actual cut that Blizzard takes isn't bad, and we have to remember that there aren't any monthly fees to play.

Most games that take a hit because of that were pretty bad to begin with and it was just a additional reasons not to get it. I can't remember any half decent game that failed due to these things, which is sad in most cases.

Also, it's not just DRM for the same of DRM, Blizzard is pushing a philosophy of always playing with other people and having all those popular social tools available 24/7. Truth be told, i for one, wouldn't play D3 in single player even if it had one, just like i after i beat D2 a few times i've played it exclusively on Bnet, there's no reason no to.

I can see the issues people are anticipation knowing their connection are bad, but personally i have close to perfect connection, so personally i couldn't care less and i'm not alone. With every year internet connectivity improves across the globe, so it would be better. I wouldn't be surprised if in 19 years we would not have a single player games at all.

Then point about "essential in-game" items just baffles me. How are they essential? Just like i haven't bough a single item for D2 cause i never felt the need, it would be the same for D3 for me. Except now, given that i get lucky, i might be able to sell some item's for cash to supplement future Blizzard purchases or even spend it on items, but still having spend no real world money on that. The only people who think that auction house is essential are the one who are willing to spend a lot of money buying items just to be better than the rest in their own eyes.

Expect to see at least 7 million Diablo III sales before the year ends.

It's still a very strong name.

Well at least this feature isn't supported in Asia, so all those millions of Chinese/Taiwanese/whatever people won't be in the running. That's one giant comfort if you're an honest moneyfarmer-ish-guy.
Nothing wrong with making a little money on a paypal account, but it's gotta stay decent. I can still see those news reports of those hundreds of asians packed together in a server room providing the rich westerners with wow gold... That's overdoing it, if you ask me, and I'm glad these people aren't (yet?) going to join the moneyfarming business. Not that I have anything about asian people, of course.
