im not sure how, Trixx was able to do so at one time for me but it depends on the drivers really. Nobody is even sure how it is possible. according to all the facts, the VRM chip that XFX used on the non-reference 5870 isn't capable of altering the voltages.

Most cards of that era when it came to non-ref = crap. Hell, look at the Caymans, specifically the Windforce. I don't see people crying out loud over the fact that Gigabyte disabled all voltage control on it? There are a few other examples too, and it's not just XFX. If you buy a non-ref board, ya best make sure it's the good kind, shrugs. When it comes to AMD cards, reference for life or go home is my motto.

Furmark is not an accurate measure of how far you can overclock a card for stability. It stresses the GPU in a way that no actual program/game can. most of the time furmark will show instability far lower than anything else. try running something like unigine heaven or 3dmark 11 and see what it does

This issue has been solved.

The funniest thing...my card was water cooled...the water cooling block wasnt on right so it over heated immediately.

Fix the block, i am now running at 900mhz core, 1230 memory with 61fps on 720p test @ 32C...love it!

Thanks for all the help.
