confused... point me to the best guide for my rig?

so after putting it off for awhile im finilly setting my rig up to fold. i looked on the guide section, but kind of confused.. can someone point me to the best guide for me? id also like to know weather its worth it to fold on my gpu..or lack there of (im on intagrated) but cpu is phenom ii x4 b55 (no L3) and os is linux mint and debian (i dual boot, do i just set it up on both oses?)

You will want to just set it up on the CPU only (no integrated GPU) and on the OS that you have on most often. I think I would avoid having folding running in both OSes because while it's possible you might come close to missing the deadline for some work units if you don't let it run that OS for a while.

I'd actually use this (OMG, it's not OCN), that's what followed on my Mint 12 install just a few weeks ago. On this I really only used the basic guide and setup auto start at boot in the background with rc.local and screen as per post #6 in that guide.

If your OSes can both access a partition, you may be able to put FAH there and have them both work on the same WU and as both are Linux they use the same Fah-core I think it would be fine. But I've never tested this myself and there is a possibility that it will work fine to fold, but you loose bonus points if you download the WU while in one Mint and uploads in Debian (but might be fine, can't really say).

Otherwise you'll have to do the setup twice, but as the SMP WU have a Quick Return Bonus system you'll loose points on both if you switch back and forth. Maybe just set up FAH on your main OS (if you have one), if he above doesn't work.

The 4250 will be great...for displaying your desktop etc. There isn't any way that could fold under Linux afaik, even if it could there wouldn't be much point as it's pretty slow and would suck to many CPU cycles.

I would think that you would still receive the bonus regardless of where you upload it but that is pure speculation. both of the above are good recommendations. It really depends on the usage. If you use one 90% of the time only install FAH on that one but if the usage is split between the two fairly evenly then try and get them both folding on the same WU

I know that if you download a WU on rig #1 and upload from rig #2 you'll loose bonus points (I have had this happen to me). But this being the same physical machine and only changing OS (and still staying with Linux), I'm inclined to believe that it would be fine, but I don't know as I haven't tested (might do that just for fun tongue.gif).

Yikes I would imagine that even changing the OS would prevent you from getting the points in that case. I only have experience moving GPU WUs across setups and not CPU so no idea of how that would affect the bonus points. I would not think they would want to add the overhead to track the OS/setup on every work unit but they very well may. I can only think of one other topic about this since I have been a part of OCN and no final conclusion was reached. Be the first definite answer and let us know smile.gif

problem.... i dont see any option to 'share' my new folder (check step 6 second post)

it should be there if you followed the guide. Try looking under properties and checking every tab. If you are installing ubuntu/most other linux builds you will also have to install some packages
