My buddy has a dell insperion 1764. Can he add a GPU to it? It doesn't have a GPU in it.

Simple answer, No, there are some high end laptops that will allow you to but generally speaking short of having a alienware laptop you are stuck, Why, because the gpu is soldered onto the motherboard itself and cannot be changed

I should have mentioned that htis laptop only had intergrated graphics right now. So no GPU would need to be removed. I don't know about their MOBOs though. Should it have a slot for a GPU?

Pretty sure having a gpu soldered onto a motherboard is the definition of integrated graphics because then its just a part of the mobo right?

No.
Laptop mobos don't have "slots". Everything is soldered to the mobo, most don't even have CPU sockets!

the laptop itself(Dell Inspiron 1764) can come in a couple different variations(HDD size/RAM size/CPU/GPU ranging from intel gma 4500mhd to radeon hd 5450m) integrated gpu generally means it is either integrated in the CPU, or it is the default intel one(GMA4500). In general, laptops dont have slots for a gpu. Dedicated GPU's and integrated GPU's are both soldered to the motherboard and therefore impossible to change(unless you have a laptop that specifically can, such as some alienware models).
its also impossible to have a laptop without a gpu, you simply wont have video output. tongue.gif
