What is associated with the .exe file extension?

Thread Starter
I need to create custom file extension associations for an FTP client, specifically for the .exe extension.

If it helps ('any information counts (:' so-), I need to know the correct answer for the Windows 7 operating system.

I'm not sure I follow - you want this FTP client to be a Windows Portable Executable (essentially a .EXE file) but without the .EXE extension?

I'm pretty sure it can be done with some hacking about in the registry (file extension specific default actions are just basic registry settings and very easy to change), but it begs the question as to why on Earth would you want to do such a thing?

My first question is why? What are you actually trying to do / achive?
