Looking for a laptop in the next 6 months

Okay, so I'm looking for a laptop for uni next year but I'm pretty picky with my laptops, the reason I have mine at the moment is I needed something for travel (on holiday) but I'd like something a bit better when I get home.

My requirements are:
  • Longish battery life, maybe like 4-5 hours of browsing on a balanced power scheme
  • Less than 15.6" in size, also lightweight would be nice (under about 2.5kg)
  • Decent screen
  • At least 4 cores (2 and 2 is fine)

My current laptop is okay but a bit cumbersome to carry around the house and move around, it's just a fraction too heavy and thick. The thinner and lighter the better. Sorry for any mistakes, I'm on my single core phone, my laptop ran out of battery again frown.gif

Thanks,

Alex.

Oh and budget is around $1,000-$1,500USD. If there's something that's a bit more but obviously worth it that's a consideration too.

do you want a gaming laptop? if so msi / asus have great ones.

if not and just for work an ultrabook is light, fast, and has great battery life.

honestly i wouldnt mind recommending a macbook at this price if its just for school work. could pick up a used 15.6 inch for a little yes and apple is to update their line soon so these should be going on sale in various shops.

I don't ever game on the move and my pc takes care off all my gaming needs. I was thinking an ultrabook, the envy looked enticing but I'll wait a bit to see if there's going to be any breakthroughs that'll save me some battery.

Also I'm not very partial to macbooks, I don't really like the operating system and I find it awkward to use. My girlfriend has one and I don't think I could use one all the time.

Does anyone know if there's going to be any bigger than 13-14 ultrabook made?

Thanks,

Alex.

An Ultrabook with an i7 fulfills all of your needs.

At the moment, the HP Envy Spectre has the best display of the Ultrabooks (1600x900p at 14").

Acer has slightly larger Ultrabooks. Check out the Acer M3 and M5 Ultrabooks. They have 15" and 14" screens, respectively. Due to their slightly larger size, they have dedicated video cards (GT 640m). You might find that useful. However, the M3 and M5 have 1366x768 resolution. These notebooks should have been released already but I cannot seem to find them in any retail stores.
