My friend said his laptop was broken so with out consulting me first, he took it to the university's computer store. It is a gateway ( he said 2 years old). Anyway, they told him that his laptop's motherboard was fried. This was the first thing that sounded fishy to me, how does a motherboard just fry all of the sudden? The other thing that got me is that the guy at the desk told him it would be 400$ for the parts and 69$ for the labor. I don't know about you guys but I think the most expensive mobo topped out at about 240$. I told him to call a few more places and get quotes from them before he makes his decision because I think he is getting ripped off. Do you guys have any suggestions? I could probably replace the motherboard myself if that is in fact the problem... it just seems unlikely to me.
