[TH] Financial Analysts Say Intel Killed the Discrete Graphics Card - Page 3

Says the man who doesn't understand why people buy discrete graphics cards in the first place...

Anyway, on board has ALWAYS owned the lion's share of the market, as most users have very simple graphics needs that are best handled cheaply.

I think now the most common res is 1366x768--on account of all the laptops.

I think the general assumption people make (me included) is that you generally don't want to game at the lowest settings--that may or may not be the case. But as soon as you dial up the in-game settings, the HD4K performance quickly loses ground.

Financial Analysts only job is to sell the products which they sponsor and they all do!

They only respond to product and or market releases and they have to say something to motivate investors or they do not get paid!

Little knowledge goes into this aspect! Look at the advice given 2006 - 2009! Please research this!

not to sound like a noob but, wouldn't using a integrated gpu make more heat and stress the cpu more?

I agree that general PC users will not need anything over HD4k, but I don't understand "extreme gamers who want very powerful graphics cards are in a niche market already, and it's shrinking.". To say the gaming market and the community built around it is shrinking is naive and uneducated at best. The gaming market is booming, and to say there is not need for GPUs that render these games, and GPUs allow the end user to play them is illogical. I really hope I can get a job as a financial analyst as it seems you can spew complete garbage and still have people listen to you as if you spoke the word of God.

Honestly how would you have any idea how well the PC gaming market is doing? All we know for sure is it seems like DD sales are good and retail sales have decreased more then 50% in the last couple years. Reality is that discrete GPU sales probabally are dropping especially if analalysts who are privy to this info are saying it.

Again I'm not calling doom and gloom or anything like that all I'm saying is to think that iGPU sales aren't going to eat into the discrete market is not being realistic.

Gm has been selling around 9 million cars a year, for 6 decades, and yet every year they lost market share from 2000-2010, but they still kept selling 9 million cars a year.

Market analysis is 50% manipulation of facts.

Most GPUs sold are inexpensive, low-performance parts. Better IGPs will seriously eat into this market.

The mid and high-end discrete market is not all that large.

This is about market share.

For every APU AMD sells, Intel will sell ten IGP equipped CPUs.

The HD4000 is still very, very bad when compared to AMD's Fusion.
