Didn't know that discrete cards were around anymore? Isn't discrete the same thing as dedicated, expect that discrete uses the systems RAM?

Discrete card is a dedicated card. A GPU seperate from the rest of the system.

Just marketing. Nothing has changed, other than Intel being forced to offer better graphics since AMD has made integrated graphics usable first. The amout of dedicated GPUs will not change much,as the same people that wanted it before still want it now. They would have to improve IGP performance probably another 30% before the market shares would change much.

I know how well the PC/gaming market is doing by understand the basics of a free market. Games continue to be made, prices continue to increase, and more and more people are becoming aware of what gaming is. Like I said previously, the integrated graphics will solve a lot of average PC users needs, but it is ridiculous to say that the iGPU 'killed' discrete graphics. It just doesn't make any sense.

Intel HD 4000 series iGPUs can drive 3 displays. Most people do not need more displays than that unless they work in financials/trading.

While there's not many gamers with GTX 690s, etc who aren't on OCN, XS or the like most gamers I've seen tend to run stuff in the real mid-range. Not the high-mid range. (ie. HD6670, HD6770, GTS 550, etc)

Now, as for APUs killing discrete cards...Going to happen eventually, but not yet. Most computers I see come with a HD6400 or similar, only the cheapest don't. Ultrabooks will help but for the most part, the AU$700+ market is dominated by discrete. Even when you factor in Llano/Trinity.

nothing will replace discrete gpu's.. anyone that cares about graphics or gameplay wouldn't let that happen. integrated graphics are for people who know nothing about computers, or people who cant afford it.

Discrete implies small and to go unseen, dedicated means with the sole purpose of doing a particular task.
