New build. Out of the loop with desktops. Is this any good? - Page 2

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but invest in a good CPU cooler. It'll go a long way when overclocking smile.gif

I've built all of my desktops since I was 13 (22 now) so I usually know what to pick, I just wasn't sure anymore. the last desktop I had I was still using an AMD II X2 240 and 4gb of DDR2 ram with an HD4650 gpu.
It's going to be nice getting more than 30fps on low in WoW, and 6fps in Minecraft. Hell I have ~170 games on Steam now, can hardly play a single one of them!

Since you don't need HDD's and thus have extra money to spend, I HIGHLY recommend shooting for a 7870 if possible (7870 definitely). They are low power, low temp, high overclocking, high performing. Drivers need a tiny bit of work still (apparently - I've never had significant issues at all with AMD drivers), but the cards themselves are massive bang for the buck. I've seen benches of them (7870) overclocked to just shy of stock 7970 levels. Either one of these will crush any game out, period, at 1080p.

As stated above, the 560 you picked is the non-ti version, which is basically a well overclocked gtx460. It's not going to have the power to do justice to your system.

And RAM. Good stuff smile.gif

I'll be playing: WoW, Minecraft, Diablo 3, SC2, LA Noir, Dragon Age 2, Witcher 2, Grid, Need for speed shift 2, and the GW2 beta.
Let me know if it's any good please, thanks!

If you are gonna OC I recommend a decent cooler, at least the Hyper 212+

Damn. I never realized building deskops was such a challenge now days. I just re did parts of it. I'm $60 over, but I'll just pay cash for it.

GPU - EVGA GeForce 560 Ti FPB

Coolermaster HAF 912

Asus PCI-E Wifi N Card

DVD burner - Sony SATA (nothing special)

PSU - OCZ ModXStream 700 watt

Core i5-2500K (I'd get the new one, but Amazon wants an extra $50. I'll check newegg in a minute)

Monitor: 19" Asus LCD (epic gaming rig, **** screen. I had to make a compromise)

G.Skill Sniper Series 8gb

Motherboard: I'm already over on budget, so I got something that had good reviews... and wasn't low on stock. - Gigabyte Z68

Total - $1060.25 before $80 in rebates. I don't think anyone can do much better.

newegg is $1033 before rebates. Gotta love $50 in instant rebates. Plus the MIR's.

Also includes Artic Silver 5 and a Hyper 212 Plus.
