7970 brand/model advice please

Thread Starter
After trying to decide for what seems like an eternity (between a GTX680 & HD 7970 ) think I've finally come to a decision, I need a little help choosing a brand/model though as I'm a complete novice as far as the newer cards are concerned, budget is £450 although ideally I would like to keep it as close to the £400 mark as possible.
Will I be okay compatibility wise with the rest of my rig & will it fit OK..?
Also how are the drivers with these newer cards, I play a lot of older games & quite frankly my experience with the ATI drivers previously has been terrible.

Coolermaster CM690 Dominator
P5K3 mobo
i7 920 (3.8GHz OC)
HD 5870
6GB Kingston DDR3
Noctua NH-D14 cpu cooler
XFX Pro 750w PSU

Thanks.

i like the fact that the sapphire 7970 dual x comes packaged with all the necessary adapters for eyefinity + a crossfire bridge. they get my vote

there are a lot of people having drivers issues (and others not) but you should be fine since you wouldnt be running crossfire.

I picked up the MSI lighting off new egg last night, it has the highest scores for the cards that are available in North America and from what it I hear it and the ASUS card are best for eyefinity. If it not coming with an active active mini display port adapter is the thing that sets you off of it then you probably are not already running eyefinity. Most people who run it already have one if not a couple.

Who says?? You do since you posted the link from Tom's Hardware. If you took the time to actually read it, and 12 what I have no idea what you are talking about. I have been told the ASUS and MSI models are better for eyefinity since there have been very little reports of screen tearing from these cards. Where as other users report tearing with many of the the other cards.

Many thanks to all for the advice, I think I'm probably gonna go with the Sapphire Dual X (unless someone can convince me there's something better for the same price)

Now all I have to do is find a retailer that isn't ripping me off quite as much as all the others (I live in the UK!)
