I'll like at least 8 sata 6 on Raid 5 and 2 on raid 0 with DDR3 1866 minim.

what should I buy? thumb.gif

are these any good>GA-X58A-UD3R?

Also some questions that need answering

Can you overclock DDR3 1866 ram to 2200?

Can you get 1366 boards with 8 or more dimm slots?

Can you add hard drives to a raid 5 after its been made, i.e. if I had 4 drives & added another 1 or 2 drives, or would I have to delete and redo?

Can I fly if I drink enough redbull? wheee.gif

ASUS Rampage III.

are these any good>GA-X58A-UD3R?

Reviews say not so much.

Also some questions that need answering

Can you overclock DDR3 1866 ram to 2200?

Yes.

Can you get 1366 boards with 8 or more dimm slots?

Only dual CPU server boards.

Can you add hard drives to a raid 5 after its been made, i.e. if I had 4 drives & added another 1 or 2 drives, or would I have to delete and redo?

I'm not sure about that one.

Can I fly if I drink enough redbull? wheee.gif

Only if you believe hard enough. rolleyes.gif

Thanks I'll be looking for one of these boards, looks to have got the lot; for under £200!

Rampage III Extreme is the best motherboard for 1366 (I have the rampage 2 extreme)

Number of Memory Slots: 6×240pin
Memory Standard: DDR3 2200(O.C.) / 2133(O.C.) / 2000(O.C.) / 1800(O.C.) / 1600 / 1333 / 1066
PCI Express 2.0 x16: 4 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 (support x16; x16/x16; x16/x8/x8 and x8/x8/x8/x8 configurations)

If you look at the specs above, you can see the motherboard supports DDR3 2200 O.C. so as long as your RAM is rated for 2200 you can do it easy. Just adjust timings and voltage accordingly

1366 chip is TRIPLE channel which is why you only see 3 dimm slots or 6 dimm slots motherboards. With this Rampage III extreme MoBo, you can put up to 6 4GB dimms for up to 24 GB ram which is OVERKILL.

About the RAID, I think you have to re-do, but I might be wrong. I only use RAID 0 SSD's for boot then separate drives because if one fails, I wont lose everything.

Yes you can. The RAID will rebuild itself.

You'll almost certainly need a separate raid card for that many SATA 6Gbps ports, but unless you are using SSDs for your RAID 5, SATA 3Gbps will be more than enough.

Some 1866 memory might handle it, but the IMC on most Bloomfield won't. Most Gulftowns should handle 2200 with only three DIMMs.

Not any consumer level board, no.

I don't think the Intel controller allows this, but 3rd party ones might.
