in all seriousness, i would love to have AMD back in competition, intel is starting to slack in the engineering because AMD is not giving them enough competition anymore. In fact the AMD intel competition is what got both companies tp output such great CPU's its just up to us to determine and buy the best one at the time of purchase.

Is it true they didn't pay their chip designers enough and they all left?

Why can't they get the ati GPU guys to design the cpu?

This is getting depressing.

And why aren't they kicking out 12 core phenom II chips or something??

lol man... maybe you should ask AMD this question.

I think AMD get to make CPUs with lots of cores (sounds good) but (in reality) their overall performance is so bad.
Personally. when it comes to CPU performance AMD core count means nothing to me. i also feel like when some people hear hexa-core or 8-core CPUs they go like "WOW OMG AWESOME", but in reality it isnt much performance out of it. (thats just me) smile.gif

actully they compeat very well, just not in the way we want them too. they make a killing on those apus- tons and tons. trinity will be even better then llano. also, bulldozer, well not doing so hot on the desktop market, has stormed the server/workstation market with its 16cores. you know who else has had good things to say about amd? video editers. the 81xxs have i7 level editing power at i 5 level price. but yes, for the moment intel has more to offer gamers- but that dosnt mean amd is out, not by a long shot. im waiting on piledriver myself. i remember when the frist phenoms came out. they disappointed, and this same thing happend. many people ditched for intel, and people like you posted threads like this. then- phenom ii. with athlon ii it gave intel all the way up to the i5 level in the heyday of the x6 a serious beating. again, amd isnt out, not by a long shot

It costs a lot of R&D money to make a good CPU. Intel happens to have a lot of money, what a shock.

Anyways, Enterprise and Desktops are where their main focus is. Trinity and iGPU on Ivy is the real battle, and for that matter AMD is doing quite well.

Enterprise, Xeons and Operatons are competing.

The only markets we correspond to are enthusiasts, gamers, and worstation. Not that large a chunk. AMD can't just go around allocating billions of dollars to make teh mozt l337 gamer cpu.

With Llan and Trinity, AMD will be quite profitable?

Their desktop class cpus (non APU) having more performance? I don't see that happening for a long time.

Intel is holding the class crown on the IPC wars right now.

there are several really. even cad work and sometimes general multitasking (all from first hand experience) can be faster with last gen i7's and amd 6 cores than with my 2500k. even the 8120 bulldozer is faster in many of those tasks. sessions in FL studio and pro tools are fine if it's all I'm doing, but try and do anything else and things get messy. phenom II 6 cores have a harder load with FL studio and pro tools, but don't mess up as much when doing other things alongside them. more threads that can get it done okay is better than less that get it done faster per thread it seems. or maybe there is a compatibility issue with my 2500k. meh. gaming is where they fall behind the most, but it's not everything.

I think it has to deal with the fact that AMD's R&D deparment budget isnt very large to start off with. And plus they need to split it over their CPUs and ATI. With less R&D overall than intel of course intel will trump. As for their gpus, it is the same thing against nvidia. They just dont have enough R&D budget to compete against them. But AMD had lots of places to shine. For example, their llanos kill intel's igpu. If AMD does approve more R&D budget to the same level as much nvidia and intel give their R&D im sure AMD could easily trump both.
and plus bulldozer has very new architecture. Like literally totally different design. Windows just probably doesnt know how to fully utilize the architecture and the technology

This. I lost respect for amd after building a new rig in anticipation for bulldozer. Now I have a Crosshair V running a Ph II 955 lmao.
