I've never heard so much Fleetwood Mac-Billy Joel-Phil Collins as I did that afternoon and it had been a LONG time since I'd seen the woman that happy (she's married to a man really does believe he's under constant government surveillance).

In tandem with a laptop the A5's can stream Radio from all over the country (world?), play almost any song a person can think of (Youtube/Grooveshark/etc.) not to mention, yes, CD's (and DVD's, Hulu, etc.), They sound about as good as anything can for the money (opinion, but apparently a very popular one among audiophiles), without the laptop they have an Ipod Dock (which can hold CD's and probably has an FM tuner), and they are $100 less than the aforementioned clock radio.

I figured they were worth a mention as an alternative. Two posts in a fairly short thread are at my expense, but that's OK.

Sounds like you should be looking for a good therapist instead of a sound system lulz.

back on topic: Bose sound systems are really just great marketing at work, to an audiophile they suck the big one. However I don't think your mother would be able to hear the difference between high end audio and mediocre Bose system. Get what ever fits your budget.

I would also go with that denon over the bose wave radio. My father bought a wave radio a few years ago and I was very unimpressed with it. We dug his old Yamaha receiver from the 70's out of the basement and hooked up his old speakers and we both agreed it sounded better than the bose. He ended up returning it.

Bose loves to pretend their tiny speakers can deliver the same quality as larger speakers. I think you sacrifice a lot when you go with tiny speakers simply for the sake of aesthetics. I'll take normal 5 inch or larger speakers over tiny overpriced speakers any day.

Tivoli Model 2 $199.00. Unfortunately the matching CD player is the real expensive part. Throw in a 5disc cd/dvd player.
