As for that particular model, the R845 is an undercover Portege. It has the 66Whr battery, which gets 9 hours runtime (yes, independently tested reviewers showed it having the longest battery life in class, beating out Macbook Pro 13 etc.). I have the Portege R835 and I love it. The R845 weighs just 4.2 pounds - less than most 13" laptops, keyboard is nice, good Synaptics touchpad, etc. Speakers are mediocre but that's true for most laptops. If you just want i5 and integrated graphics, lightweight and good battery life, the R845 is perfect. You won't find better for the price.

As for aesthetics, nothing about it looks dated. Chrome hinges, metallic navy blue lid, magnesium alloy chassis that's something like 0.8-1" thick, thin bezel left-right, decent amount of curves, etc. Wannabe_modder, maybe try to learn a little on the product you're commenting about. The R845 indeed gets over 7-8 hours of battery...

Lolll funny you say that, I am actually buying a laptop in june, So I will wait for this same laptop to come out in june with ivy bridge instead.
Also having a light weight powerful and good battery life is the plan wink.gif
Thank you for giving me your experience with this laptop and giving me more knowledge I actually did not know about.

Very nicely built, but the keyboard and the touchpad click-buttons feel a little cheap. Gets around 7 hours of battery life, it's great for productivity but definitely not for gaming since it only has the iGPU of the i5 mobile lineup.

The keyboard Im personally not worried about, im typing on a cheap $10 one right now lol. The touchpad may annoy me though, but thank you for your input I really appreciate it thumb.gif

I'll admit, the touchpad's clicker buttons have an obnoxious "click" sound to them (takes a smallish-moderate amount of force, sounds like clicking buttons on a CRT TV almost) . However, on any laptop it's infinitely faster to tap the touchpad to click. As it is, I have the whole touchpad for clicking; top-right corner is right-click, and bottom-right corner is middle-click (rest is left-click). You could configure the tap-zones pretty much any way you want, up to one for each corner and the center being main zone.

As for scrolling, navigating and such with the touchpad, flawless. Some of the very light matte finish wore off in the center, now it's a very moderate gloss finish, not at all bad and typical of most touchpads. Still works just as well.

Loll I havent had a laptop in so long I forgot I could just double tap XD. So if the touch pad makes loud clicking noise its cool as long as its smooth when im moving the cursor I dont mind then tongue.gif

It'll definitely be fine biggrin.gif to clarify the touchpad itself doesn't make loud clicking noises tongue.gif . Some laptops have a "Clickpad" which makes the whole touchpad a big clicker like the Macbook Pro (very obnoxious and slow IMO), this laptop does not have a click pad. The separate clickers make the noise. Actually tapping the touchpad to click is much, much quieter (someone sitting 3 feet away in a library won't hear) than using the clickers to click.
