New SFF gaming build help

Thread Starter
I'm wanting to build a new gaming machine in a SG05 and I would appreciate help verifying components.

I already have the following:

- SG05 case with included 450W PSU
- 128GB Samsung 830 SSD

I'm thinking of getting the following:

249.99 - Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX806237I53570K - ordered

199.99 - ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard with USB BIOS - ordered

399.99 - XFX FX-795A-TNFC Radeon HD 7950 Core Edition 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card <--too long. need something else

49.99 - Prolimatech PRO-SAM17 Samuel 17 CPU Cooler <--may not fit?

47.98 - SAMSUNG 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model MV-3V4G3/US (2)

Total: $947.97

Does it look sensible? Anything I should change? Also what speed RAM should I get?

Thanks in advance.

I am not sure if you want to wait till someone provides exact measurements for heatsink clearance.

Not sure if this is the most up to date discussion, but...

Personally, I will be using a 620 Kuhler, so I hope I wouldn't have to worry about clearance.

7950 might be too long to fit in the case. If it isn't it will be very close.

This is the only ram worth buying. Best stuff on the market.

Everything else looks fine.

The Samuel 17 has to fit the Asus, because it fit on all of my ITX board that had the socket much closer to the PCIe than the daughterboard on the P8H67-I Deluxe. You'd just need to rotate it 180 degrees. That being said, I'd pick up an H60/620 instead. You'll be limited with HDD space, but they cool so much better.

You better hurry up lol. There are only 21 in stock tongue.gif

Lastly, I'd go with Samsung for memory. The sticks are totally underrated (speeds and timings) and you should easily be able to hit 2133 MHz 9-10-10-28-1T with 1.50v. Newegg is out of the 2x4GB kits, so you'd have to grab two of these instead - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147094

PS +1 on the Samsung 830

You always beat me! lol I didn't even see the 7950, but you're right. At 10.5", it's not going to fit without some kind of modification that involves cutting a hole in the front. This can be done without touching the front plastic piece.

Actually I did a quite a bit of looking around and I don't think I'll have video clearance issues.

This guy fit a Powercolor 7950 into a SG05 with no modifications:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1372339&page=69

The Powercolor is 275mm (10.82 inch) and the XFX is 10.5 inches. Some people measure including the expansion card bracket so I can't be sure though.

Thanks for the RAM suggestion. I have added it to my list.

I may need to rethink the cooling.

That card isn't 275mm lol. I don't know why, but Powercolor measured it too long in its specs and that XFX card will not fit. Keep reading the thread over @ [H] wink.gif

Thanks for catching that. I confirmed that 10.5 inches will not fit.

Also I was being dumb. I forgot I already have the case. I took some measurements and I have an absolute max of 265mm (10.4 inches) to work with.

NP! Btw, there are only seven P8Z77-I Deluxe boards in stock!

Yup. I ordered just the CPU and mobo earlier biggrin.gif

I'm ordering the rest once I get the video and cooling issue sorted out.

Thanks!
