issue with 7950 black edition

Thread Starter
hello everyone. So i got the 7950 black edition card in the mail today. its pretty sweet but im having some issues.

got rid of old graphics card drivers and updated these new drivers.

however sometimes when booting up the pc ill get some lines on the screen and it will restart. other issues are when I am playing skyrim for a few minutes the screen display will also go black or blue with some lines on it and the pc will freeze and ill have to reboot. any ideas of what could be causing this issue?

another thing i noticed that was weird is when that happens I get logged out of all the websites that my pc knows im suppose to stay logged into(if that makes any sense)

did I get a bad card? or am i just not seeing something?

did you use driver sweeper to clean out previous drivers?

hello, no i did not, i read not to do that in a few other threads

really? well my method of using driver sweeper is to do the system program management thru windows. uninstall the amd drivers then, use driver sweeper to clean it out then boot into safe mode run driver sweeper again then finally reinstall the new drivers. but if that doesn't work then just try benching the card, any further artifacts i think you have a bad card since your psu should be efficient enough.

The problem with driver apps, is that they can remove a lot more than you know, and sometimes not remove what you don't know you want removed.

OP, what driver are you using, what port are you connecting monitor (hdmi+dvi?), and how old is your psu?

the only time you should use driver sweeper is when youre switching from nvidia to ati or vice versa.

well xfx told me to try driver sweeper. but that did not work. once i install the new CCC and drivers and restart it just black screens right at the desktop frown.gif going through the RMA process with xfx. does this sound like a card issue or driver issue? I see lots of other people with the black edition not having any issues, so hopefully its just my card

The BE is overclocked... it sounds like w/o drivers it is ok? When the drivers are not loaded, the card is not told to run at whatever X clock and voltage. You might have a corrupted bios. It black screens when you log in right? At log in is when the driver reads the bios and determines what it's stock clock is.
