Best 7970 to watercool?

Hey guys

So I'm getting a 7970 soon, as they're about $170AU cheaper then the 680 here. I'm getting an EK full cover block and want to know what 7970 will be best to watercool.

Also, is the warranty voided if I take off the stock cooler?

Thanks for any input!

Any reference card will be the same as far a cooling. XFX will RMA the card if you have put a water block on it without an issue. They are the only ones I have experience with for warranty issues.

Thanks for the response!

The question was more geared towards which cards like the cold more? The cooling is being done by my waterblock and not the card wink.gif
I've heard sapphire cards love the cold a bit more then others and can OC a bit further on water; but not too sure.

And thanks for the info about XFX, but there are not XFX cards for sale here in AUS, on the site I buy from anyways.

I'd wait for Asus DCU II 7970 blocks, by far the best and most stable OC'ing with the R7000 series. Just better binned GPU's and 12 phase vrm, just better for overclocking.

not really..Asus really did a bad job on Hd7970 this time. i owned one but return back. vrm temps goes up to 110. gpu up to 80 for a 3 slot card, stock vol for v core it's 1174. need to bump vcore vol for just 1125 core over clock.
but lots of reference 7970 with stock core vol at 1112 didn't need vol increase for 1125 overclock.
as for watercooling, i am not sure about the asus dc2. but reference had more water block choice, u had, xspc for less than $100. koolance, heat killer n ek,about the same price. and also swiftech, which it's$155 .but it come with back shield,1 slot bracket, and truely full coverage block, look so clean, ever with red backlight.

^^Yea, dc2 has proven to be crap in general.

If you do get a dc2 you best out it on air right away because that cooler is crap. And as for the binning, it doesn't mean you will get a better gpu. You will still have to kneel at the altar of the Silicon Lottery Gods. The only reason to get a dc2 is the 4 DP ports and if you have a RIVE for the hotwire, because it will not clock any better than a reference card and there's NO guarantee to that extent despite what anyone tells you.

I have the reference MSI 7970 with the EK acetal copper blocks. I the cards actually overclock VERY well. Running at 24/7 1.2ghz on the core 1.6ghz on the memory, temps never go over 45c on load. Really sweet cards and blocks.
