I have a pretty fast connection and I'd still use it. Some of those games are 10-20 gigs, that's 3 or 4 hours of downloading that could be occurring while I'm stuck at work, so that I can have fun as soon as I get home. I can see this getting used quite a bit during Steam holiday sales.

Edit: It's not a setting. I forgot because it's been a long time since I last used Steam. You can minimize your game, right click your downloads, continue them, and go back to your game.

If by "ages" you mean less than a year, then okay. It used to be like when I later went back to the game, the download paused again. I've tried this myself.

Semi-off topic, when the hell is Steam going to let you choose where to install a game, instead of having to be in the Steam folder lol.

Better question is when they are going to start letting us throttle the download speed for games. Its so annoying to have my entire household be brought to a standstill because Steam is hogging all the bandwidth.

That doesn't work. Set it to 56k and yet it still downloads at my connections top speed. So surprised this isn't a default option mad.gif Even dropbox has a download and upload limiter.

Well then. Are you on the DMZ on your router? If not just throttle Steam's download ports.
Code:
Steam Client

UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive (Game client traffic)
UDP 27015 to 27030 inclusive (Typically Matchmaking and HLTV)
***** TCP 27014 to 27050 inclusive (Steam downloads)******
    UDP 4380

Dedicated or Listen Servers

    TCP 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)

Steamworks P2P Networking and Steam Voice Chat

    UDP 3478 (Outbound)
    UDP 4379 (Outbound)
    UDP 4380 (Outbound)

Steam so gosu. Lol personally I think this is pretty awesome but I foresee some potential security issues. At the same time I suppose if you have a strong enough password and don't save your credit/debit card info you'll be fine
