Add another 4GB C7 1600Mhz or new 8GB set for same price?

Thread Starter
Hey,

Looking to add another 4GB of RAM, currently using 4GB of G.Skill Ripjaws 1600Mhz with 7-8-7-24 timings. The cheapest I've seen another set is £46, which is pricey when these days you can pick up 8GB of decent stuff for the same price, just with higher timings.

So my question is, is it worth getting another set of the G.Skill RAM or going for 8GB of new stuff for the same price and perhaps selling on my old set (does RAM sell well anyway?), and if so do tighter timings make any difference to real world performance or gaming, or is it just for boasting with benches?

Oh and any recommendations for a 8GB set for under £50 would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Timings do not make much of a difference in a real world scenario, only in Benchmarking. I would keep your old set of RAM, as it may one day pay off to have a spare set (Incase you need a backup rig, or your RAM goes kaput).

I see you're running SB, Supposedly SB prefers low-voltage memory.

I would recommend the Arctic white Vengance (due to it being low voltage memory)

If you're not that bothered, all of these kits are solid kits, (Except Corsair may offer best customer service)

As a general rule of thumb AMD likes tighter timings and Intel higher clocks, although both are extremely negligible outside bench marking. I would get the 8GB kit, I purchased some CAS 11 G. Skill @ 2133 for ~50USD and tightened the timings as you can't go higher than that, also my Corsair Vengeance are on the way back from Corsair from an RMA so it's always good to have back up RAM.
