UPGRADE or SELL my 1366 i7 Computer? - Page 2

You could either get another HD 5870, If you can find it a GTX 680 or take adv of the price drops on either HD7950 or HD 7970. There's no need to upgrade from your cpu, unless your just not happy with it and just want more overclocking fun with the Sandy bridges. Other wanting to sell it off while you can while you can still get something for them.

Easy. Keep your current rig. and upgrade your videocard and RAM. The rest of your rig is more than capable.

In contrast, we're more or less the same, I got a 920@4Ghz also.
Just 2 weeks ago I've added a second 6Gbs of ram, and I'm on track for a 680/670 and an SSD.

Yes, which is why I said if you are planning a trip to the US, meaning if you are going regardless of a new build. I probably could have worded it better.

there is no reason to upgrade from any i7. just up the graphics. a 68o if you can find it, 7970 otherwise. OR (and this might be better value) try and find another 5870 (maybe used) and crossfire it

Haha yeah, not to mention my Cosmos S BARELY made it past the maximum dimension rule American Airlines has. My friend tried to do the same, but his Corsair 800D case was too big and so he had to ship it by boat. I want my next computer to be watercooled so I need a big case and the weight will be terrible if I try to bring it with me as a luggage.

I tried the 5870 Crossfire route. It went very well on every game except for BF3 which had terrible micro-stuttering issues. I even lowered graphics to High (just as I play without CrossFire) and the microstuttering only showed when Crossfire was enabled so I just sold it back. New graphics card seems to be the best choice. I doubt, though, a 680 GTX will last me more than 3 years like my 5870 has (first DirectX 11 card released and still kicking).

I am in the same boat.

Current system:
Rampage Extreme ii
i7 920 @ 4ghz (air)
12g Corsair 1600 mhz
2 x 30g Vertex 2's
1 x 750g Seagate
2 x HD 6850's HIS
Antec 1200 Case
TJharlow Window Mod.
PC Power & Cooling 910 Silencer

System is finally getting stressed but i want the nicer things in life. i.e. USB 3 / New case (Cosmos 2 owner as of last month)

My plans: Buy 1366 Top of the line MB (Gigabyte G1 Assassin)
buy 2 680's
buy 2 Vertex 3 120g's (Sata 3)
buy 1 1 TB Green WD

Just my 2 cents.
Transplant and enjoy

Why do you want to go from a Rampage II to a G1 Assassin? PCI 3.0 won't work on it without changing your i7. If you want 3.0 USB, there is a PCI board made by ASUS that gives you 3.0 USB for the Rampage II Extrememe MOBO. That is what I will do.

Also the Sata 3 mobos for 1366 sockets all uses Marvell controller if you happen to be one of the folks that dislike that controller.

If it were my money, I'd hold on for now, and cope with the fact one game stresses it, until the point you can go to something new. And I'd suggest either 2011 or waiting for whatever the replacement for 1155 is, when Intel release it (as they certainly will in the next 18 months or so).

For what it's worth, my 930 at stock runs BF3 on Ultra at usually 55-65 FPS at 1080P with 570 SLI. I'm sure your 940 with a 680 (or 690?) would handle BF3 Ultra very capably.
