If I am running water on my main rig, I'll know if something bad happens, but if I am not around, it makes me a little anxious. Maybe I have nothing to worry about.

I use team viewer to check on my rig if Im away for a weekend or just want to check on it.

Unless you change the setting in the bios your rig will throttle/shut down before you do damage to your chip.

You can also use real temp to set alarms at certain temps. It even has an option to run an .EXE at a certain temp. Im guessing you could say that if it reaches a temperature you are not comfortable with to run a shutdown script.

Also depending on the chip a 2600K can get a pretty healthy clock on air. I ran 4.7 on my 2500K with no issue until ambients went above 80F. Then I watched it closely and it never went over 80C. That was with a 212+ so Im guessing with one of the super coolers you can do even better.

I currently have a 212+ and a water loop. I am thinking of going water on my gaming rig and toss the 212+ on my 2600K and fold with that. I havent bought any new parts for the folding rig yet, so I was planning to fold over the weekend on my gaming rig to see how hot the chip gets on air, and then go from there.

i would just leave it on air. you can get a good overclock on air.
