Haha just imagine one of those controllers exploding

Though that would suck if it happened while you were playing...

Well it's not that bad. It will just discharge and then you can recharge it, and then after a while it will stop charging, so you buy a new one. A lot of small electronics work this way.

But it means you have to shell out another $50 to replace your controller. Id prefer the much cheaper option of replacing the battery pack.

The PS controller was revolutionary..........in 1995, i really hate it now compared to the Xbox 360 controller. Apart from the folding thing, i havent heard any good news from sony recently. They need to fix that controller thing, but they have most likely already been shipped its rediculous. 600euro for a PS3 and the only thing you get extra to 360 is slightly more power, which by the way doesnt seem to make any difference in the way the games look. And now this, how can ppl still want a PS3?

This may be the case, but i doubt it will be for long. How many times have sony's ideas about the PS3 caused outrage which resulted in a quick and drastic change? Too many to count, if it doesn't change this is quite possibly the worst idea since the PSX.

Hmm, so I have to buy a whole new controller when the battery goes?

I'll have a Wii please.

Jeez. What are you doing with your controllers? Is your grip strong enough to crush a man's head or something? None of my PS2 (or PS1) controllers have ever had a problem, not one. And it's symmetry makes it the best controller out there, much better than the XBox's misaligned sticks with hard jewels for buttons. (Don't have an X360, but it's largely the same controller form, right?)

Unless they use some non-standard battery, it won't be long before someone cracks the controller open and figures out how to replace the battery.

Its similar to the smaller Xbox controller, except even lighter maybe a bit smaller.
