Hello this are my specs:
Saphire HD 7850 OC (at default OC)
i5 2500k (turbo enabled, i.e. 3.7 ghz while gaming)
16 GB Corsair Vegeance @ 1333 (but can activate XPS for 1600 but would this really help at all?)
Maximus IV Gene-z/Gen 3 Motherboard
Blue Caviar WD 500 GB
Seasonic Semi Modular 620 W PSU
I am running absolutely everything in Ultra in Starcraft 2 at 1920 x 1080 resolution, and I have catalyst center version 12.4 everything at default settings, so no AA.
I am getting very poor frame rates during simple 1 vs 1 ladder matches, it will start at around 150-200 fps, then towards mid game I will have some sudden fps spikes to 30 fps, and at some point I was getting fps spikes to ONE fps!, which seems to happen whenever many sounds are playing at once, like for example 10 overlords popping at once and making the sound. This only seems to happen on the first game. The 1 fps has also only happened two times and I haven't seen it again, however the 30 fps seems to happen on the mid game at least once every game.
Towards end-game at 200 vs 200, I will be averaging 50 fps just by looking not even moving units or a bunch of buildings, durings fights it will average about 45 and extreme fights to high 30s even. I find this odd specially when this card is supposed to be in the 100 average with everything on ultra, so unless the testing is done on the start of the game, which I don't think so, I find this numbers low.
This seems kinda odd considering SC II is not supposed to be a demanding game, unfortunately I do not really play any new games to test, so all I could test was Guild Wars everything max and 4 x AA, it plays fine even when 200 + chars in town.
All my components are brand new, and I just assembled my PC 15 days ago, have not had any issues of any kind, BSOD or strange behavior, except once I turned the computer on a cold start, it started for 3 seconds and then reset itself and started fine (this was 7 days ago), I found that odd but has only happened once, and I had this problems since day one. So I am not sure what happened that one time, but I guess it was just a random fluke in power or something, I have of course everything connected to a APC @ 3500 joules.
I can run Prime 95 Blend test just fine, although I only ran it for 1:30 hours. My temps during gaming are GPU: 50, CPU: 55.
I am using the on-board sound on the Maximus IV Gene-z/Gen 3, I really don't know if this problem is related to sound or not though.
Does anyone else have a HD 7850 and plays SC II, what are your fps?
Other notes: It does play smooth overall even during large fights where it drops to 38-45 fps, however according to reviews it should be doing better.
