- The prices I listed is from Denmark and my Danish budget is higher to account for the higher prices

Hi guys.

I been stalking a lot of threads after finding this great site and it has made me hungry for trying out a first build.

Would appreciate some suggestions.

Some info about me and my needs. (Can skip this)
I've only owned lap tops and currently using my mac book pro for everything including gaming. (Sad face)

Around August I am beginning my education in Computer Science and would like a good rig that can run games decently and which I could use for my studies and whatever kind of homework they decide to throw at me.
I will also be using it for some gaming and maybe some light video editing when I get into that.

Currently I am not sure about at what budget I should run it and what the advantages of SLI are. I've seen a video of someone with an Eyefinity set-up and after 1-3 years I might try one myself.

The parts

CPU
Core i5 I5-3570K 6 MB (Intel Boxed) 299,92 USD
Or
Core i5 I5-2500K 6 MB (Intel Boxed) (Varmeafleder) 257,56 USD
To save some money with ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3

CPU Cooler
XSPC Rasa 750 RS240 WaterCooling Kit (255,97 USD)
Or
Need a suggestion if I go with the 2500k? Going to do mild OC 4.5Ghz

Motherboard
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 (175,12 USD)
Or
ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 (159,76 USD)
With the I5 2500k To save some money

Memory
G.Skill Ripjaws-X 2 x 4 GB (86,68 USD)
It's 1866 Mhz since I can't seem to find 1600.

Hard Drive
WD Caviar Blue WD10EALX 1 TB (123,39 USD)

SSD
Crucial M4 128 GB (165,23 USD)
The price difference of 64GB and 128GB is 54$

Video Card
Sapphire RADEON HD 7950 OC (Detailsalg) (3 GB) 532,06 USD

Case
NZXT Switch 810 (268,32 USD)

Power Supply
Corsair Professional Series Gold AX750 (197,89 USD)
Or
NZXT HALE82 850W (178,12 USD)

Optical Drive
ASUS DRW 24B5ST (Black) (37,60 USD)

Total: $2145

If I go with I5 2500k + Asrock Z68 3 gen without the Rasa kit but something else I would save $300 since I'm not too keen on paying more than $1800 from Danish stores. But if I can get the stuff on the list for 1800 or less delivered I would reward with $50 or for the best suggestion unless it's same as me.

EDIT: I'm buying screen/mouse/keyboard/OS seperately. And adding which parts I'm currently set on.

Will look into the suggested parts.

Regarding GPU what is the difference between the 2GB EVGA GTX 680 and the 4GB Gainward GTX 680?
Nothing right now as 2GB is enough vRAM.

I am pretty sure BF3 on 3 monitors uses 2.5GB of VRAM.

Getting a 4GB card is better for future proofing.

@OP what are the price differences in the CPUs?

You would need 4GB of vram if you were running multiple screens that are above 1080p, like a 7680x1600 setup. Otherwise it's pretty useless.

I these deals probably won't apply in Denmark but the only things I would change would be the HDD, the CD/DVD drive and the PSU if there were deals.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($209.99 @ TigerDirect)
New IB cpu that is great for gaming and OCs fine especially with the cooler.

CPU Cooler: XSPC Rasa 750 RS240 Water Cooling Kit ($129.95 @ Xoxide)
Dual radiatior custom loop for extreme cooling. With this cooler you can OC without worrying about IBs heat problem to at least 4.7Ghz.

Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($139.99 @ Mircocenter)
Great Z77 mobo by ASRock who are known for their great price/performance.

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($46.99 @ Newegg)
8gb 1600mhz ram for gaming.

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($89.99 @ NCIX US)
A reliable 1TB 7200RPM HDD by WD.

SSD: Crucial M4 64GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($78.95 @ Adorama)
Probably the best price/performance SSDs and very reliable

Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB Video Card ($399.99 @ Newegg)
If you plan to use a multi-monitor setup I would go for the 7950 this one has a great cooler too.

Case: NZXT Switch 810 (Black) ATX Full Tower Case ($169.99 @ Amazon)
Best WC and extremely cool case.

Power Supply: NZXT 850W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($79.99 @ Newegg)
850w +80 bronze PSU made by Seasonic. I would go for the 750w if its cheaper.

Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($22.98 @ Newegg)
Cheap CD/DVD Drive.

Total: $1,368.81

According to HardOCP, GTX 680 on a 3-monitor setup gives 50fps on max on BF3, so if it was over 2GB vRAM, wouldn't the performance suffer?

I5 2500k - 257,56 USD
I5 3570k - 300,45 USD
I7 2600k - 363,12 USD
I7 3770k - 431,97 USD

Everything is expensive in Denmark so I wanted a 1400$ build but my real budget accounts for the higher prices in Denmark.

We are going to do Computational and Mathimatical modelling, software development, alghoritms and so on. Can't be certain till school begins. smile.gif

I have been looking around for cheap prices including delivery in EU but can't seem to find anything. I can imagine cheaper prices in Sweden, Germany and UK.

I will give out a 50$ bounty through paypal to whoever finds me the cheapest place to buy parts when I have a full list of what I need. smile.gif
