FYI we're also hosting both DayZ & OA patches past and present in a mirror for OCN members http://goo.gl/UX8cn

Assuming you know everyone's parameters and then arguing the validity of others offering additional assistance is unnecessary IMO. Not everyone has the same "-beta=whatever", we're all just trying to help get these users back online, and the methods we've mentioned are proven. cheers.gif

That's private-hive servers only, though.

This is the official MrDeodorant guide to manually installing DayZ on Steam. If you follow these steps exactly as written, your game will work. Other methods also work, but they require additional maintenance, so I personally recommend doing it the easy way. It looks scary, but it isn't, I promise.

  1. Download and run Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead. Run them both, because they have to create profiles and stuff.
  2. Find your Operation Arrowhead installation folder. This is the folder that contains Arma2OA.exe. Copy the address to your clipboard (or to Notepad or something), because you'll need it. Mine, for example, is D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\. I'll be referring to this as *folder*. Whenever you see *folder*, take it out and paste in your folder address.
  3. Download the latest Operation Arrowhead beta patch and the latest DayZ patch. Create a folder in your *folder* called \addons\@DayZ (you might already have an addons folder, in which case all you need to add is a folder called @DayZ. The full path should be something like D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\@DayZ. Extract your DayZ files to that folder. Open up the .zip you got for the OA beta and run the .exe file. It'll say it's going to take a long time, and then it'll be done in a few seconds. No comment.
  4. Open up Steam. Tell it you want to add a non-Steam game. Hit Browse, open up your *folder*, go to Expansions, go to beta, and select the Arma2OA.exe file in that folder. Tell it to add the selected games. Right click the new game, which will be named arma2OA, and open the Properties.
  5. Open up Notepad, because it's going to make this a lot easier. What you're going to do is make a whole bunch of entries surrounded by quotes. You can do them on separate lines while you work on them, and then just pull them all into one huge line when it's time to paste them into the right fields in the arma2OA Properties.
  6. Create a line that says "*folder*\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe". Make sure it doesn't have any double slashes. It should look something like "D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe"
  7. Create a line that says "-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion". You can copy and paste that. The semicolon is important, because they tell it to look in those other folders too.
  8. Create a line that says "-mod=*folder*. Now delete everything after \common\ and replace it with \arma 2;Expansion;ca;@dayz". It should read like "-mod=D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2;Expansion;@dayz". For some reason, the mod portion wants to start in the main Arma 2 folder.
  9. Copy and paste in "-nosplash" "-nopause". Also add any other launch options you wish to start with.
  10. Make it all one big line. It should read something like "D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" "-beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion" "-mod=D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2;Expansion;@dayz" "-nosplash" "-nopause", except that it'll have your paths instead of my paths. Paste this into the Target field of the arma2OA Properties window. Paste your *folder* into the Start In field.
  11. Name your shortcut.

That is is, you're finished! Now when you download a new version of DayZ, you just extract it into your @DayZ folder (I move my existing files out first, but you could also just make a folder in your addons folder called "Old versions" or whatever you want). When you download a new OA beta, just run it. It'll replace the old version with the new one and you don't need to mess around with it. If you need to roll back from, say, 1.62 to 1.61, which is a big rollback, you would just need to delete the beta folder, because you can roll back within the same version number, but you have to clear it across versions. No big deal, running the beta patch you want to use will create all the new files it needs.

Does OCN have a camp stash somewhere on the 92/93 server? If so I want to stash my stuff there with you guys, I got one extra of range finder and GPS that we can use, along with some guns that I don't use.

This was the most epic night ever on DayZ.

We were messing around in Elektro and I took 2 guys out, then I got killed by an AS50 sniper, probably from the same group of guys that were in Elektro pretty well geared. Died about 3-4 times and went to Elektro all the time, killed at least one each time, even took one out with Hatchet. lachen.gif

Then we killed a guy behind the church, he approached us from behind but he had really bad aiming so I was able to turn around and take him down, he had ALL my gear (M4A1 CCO SD, 8x Stanag SD, M9SD and like 4 M9SD mags, GPS, range finder, toolbox, compass, watch, blood bags, epi pen, morphine... EVERYTHING I had. biggrin.gif), so after all I trolled around Elektro for like 3-4 hours and grabbed my gear back at the end. wheee.gif
