Uninstall the entire game, Arma 2 and OA.
Delete everything under the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead" folder (or wherever yours is, that is default), and the vanilla "Arma 2" folder also for good measure.
Close steam completely so that it is no longer running at all. Either File -> Exit, or stop the operation from Task Manager.
Open Steam again but run it as Administrator.
Install both games again.
CO once they are done installing.
Using dayz commander, update Arma 2 under the "Install/Update" button near the top. If you want to launch the game using steam, check the options under "Settings" in dayz commander. I'm not sure if you need the second one checked no matter what if you have the Steam version of the game, but I checked it and don't have any problem confused.gif
Install dayz from the same window.
It should be good to go after that. I was having problems with the game when I first installed it and traced it back to some missing file. Something to do with permissions... but no matter what I did, I kept having issues. I ran Steam as Admin and checked the game to have it fix it, but no matter what next time it would be missing again and I would have to re-do it again. Sometimes it would even say my serial key was invalid, and some other random errors.
Once I installed the game while Steam was under Admin, everything has been fine. It was a pain having to re-download the games, but then you might as well do every little detail to make sure the problem is fixed, such as deleting any and all folders to make sure there is no corrupt file left behind.
Edit: This was directed at dmanstasiu.

Thanks for that, I got it to work with "withSix". +REP anyways redface.gif

Well i lost all my gear again but, it was in an awesome way kinda. I met up with a random guy that was flying a chopper, popped red smoke at the castle over Saint Arulco, he flew in picked me up. We had a crew of 4, we then proceeded to drop a guy off to help some girl. After that, it's me deadeye, deadpool, and justin (randoms working together) Deadpool (the pilot) wants to raid some barracks for ammo etc. We proceed to the barracks, i can't remember which ones but none the less Deadpool being the savy pilot he was landed on the roof. We then set out to resupply and gather necessities. Deadpool told us he'd overwatch us on the roof and shoot zombies while we scavaged. Justin went down the ladder on the left side, Deadpool got into position, while Deadeye and I proceed to go down the ladder on the left side of the building. Then whilst looking at Deadpool before i went down, a shot rang out from the distance, straight through his chest. At first we didn't know what the hell was going on we thought one of the crew accidentally shot him. Then another shot rang out, justin who had already gone down looking for supplies was hit. Then it came up on the prompt "justin has been killed" So now it was to our realization we had a sniper problem, this is where it got pretty interesting. I immediately proned after finding out what we were dealing with, a shot hit right next to my head on the concrete, so i took cover behind the chopper with deadeye. About 600m off i saw a faint man silhouette. Slowly i got up, eased out my binoculars, and barely peaked around the helicopter. I was looking at the Ghillied assassin. I figured, hey i'm gonna throw some rounds your way and see what happened. This is honestly where deadeye should've escaped. I pulled out my AK-74 (with kobra) aimed up and around him and started to lay down suppressing fire, he moved and i lost site of him. Now we're yet pinned down again behind the chopper. Deadeye ask if i can fly but of course the snipers got eyes on the chopper and chat (lol we forgot to switch over to direct) he puts three rounds through the cockpit. That's a no go,i then proceed to shift and see if i can spot him again with no luck. Deadeye and i are now contemplating quitting to save the gear we have ( which is a lot). It was then my subtle motion of crawling was too much, as i crawled outward just a tad to scout for him, i heard the wiz of the shot go straight through me. Thus i died. Should've quit when i had the chance. None the less it was very fun and intense. Don't have to get angry either because loot is everywhere in lingor.

I'm a sniper myself and I must mention this: The WORST thing you can do when taking shots from a sniper is to go prone. If they are already shooting at you then you just made yourself an easy target by going prone. It does depend where they are (elevation wise), but the majority of the time going prone makes it 1. easier to hit you and 2. you are now a slug while in prone making it easier to setup the next shot.
What you should do is: 1. start sprinting in random lines to cover/tree line. Once you hear the shots pull up your compass and try to figure out which direction they shot from. See if you can locate a tactical way to retreat; using cover to block the field of view from yourself and where the shots came from.

So many times I fire at people's feet and they go prone on instinct for some reason. However, 9/10 times that makes it perfect for me to setup my next shot and get the kill.

Food for thought the next time you're getting shot at. thumb.gif

This is quite useful information. When I am getting sniped at, I usually don't make it out alive. Thanks!

Well i was on a roof lol, if i had no where to run as it takes too long to initiate climbing down a ladder. So it was either try and stay out of fire as he had the elevated position, or run off the building and break my legs and get killed anyway. Trust me i would've ran had i had that option.

Fair enough. I guess you could have hid in the chopper in like a passenger seat? biggrin.gif
