That really helped my performance. I now mainly sit at 60fps with vertical sync enabled. Also disable post processing effects makes the game much sharper.

Awesome tip about the video memory. I also have some tips dealing with controls.

ARMA II is a very clunky in regard to controls with such issues as negative acceleration, input lag and variance in X and Y axis sensitivity. This is very frusturating for anyone who has played competitive in Quake III or Unreal Tournament 2004. To say any of this is added for realism is debatable as there are some input mechanics you should just not try to simulate. These mechanics work directly against the normal use of a mouse and keyboard.

-To fix the input lag move the mouse smoothing slider all the way to the left.
-To fix the variance in the X and Y axis set the Y axis slider higher then the X axis.
-As far as negative acceleration I have not seen a fix for...
-In "Game" options move the "Head bob" slider all the way to the left

Anyone know how to force the game to utilize the GPU fully? This problem is really annoying; the lower I set my settings, the lower the GPU utilization goes.

Think of the settings as sliders, the higher you go the more goes to the GPU, the lower you go the more goes to the CPU.

Both games look OUTSTANDINGLY better.
Its a six core CPU @ 3.75ghz.... I fail to see your point about that? Why would i spend $220+ on a CPU so I can play a terribly optimized game? I looks like im playing BF2, on a system that has no issues with any other game. period.
Both games do look better. Both games also render maybe a quarter of the playable area that your computer is rendering at any given moment in Day Z. Remember the old "fast, cheap, quality, pick two" adage? You can have a small amount of really great graphics or a lot of average graphics. You can have a lot of really great graphics, but you'd need a supercomputer to run it. At any given time in Day Z with the settings turned up (Day Z caps your draw distance, but you can manually lower it), you're rendering 3-7 square kilometers of area including tracking spawned animals*, loot, zombies, and players. That's 4-10 full 64 player maps from BF3 that are rendered at any given time. That'd make quad-680s cry uncle.

Also, if you want the high-res character textures, those are in Private Military Company DLC.

*There's currently an issue with animals decreasing FPS when you're around a few of them, but that'll be patched out monday in 1.7.2.

Well, you only render an area around you of up to a 10000 metre radius. You mainly just get poor frame rates because it is poorly optimized.

Only? 10000 meters is 10 km. A 10km radius is over 300 square kilometers.... That's more landmass than every square inch of BF3 and Metro combined and multiplied 5, probably 10, times. For reference, 225k^2 is slightly less than twice the size of the map, including the water, of World of Warcraft.

However, you can only render up to a 3km radius (limited by Day Z), and only spawn zombies/loot/animals within a 200m radius (but trees, buildings, already spawned loot/zombies, and players are still rendered outside this range and players are all constantly tracked). That's still significantly larger than most games entire playing area rendered at any given moment.

So you are rendering the whole map. Thanks for proving my point thumb.gif

If your computer is strong enough, push the 3D resolution past your screen resolution so everything is downsized.

Are they going to bring back spawning with guns? I just gave up playing after they introduced that; I always just end up running infinitely from zombies.

I don't think so, It's not too bad though, you just have to be more cautious around the walkers:D

Yeah maybe limited ammo , more than before would have been decent but with nothing its a little rough, I still play though , what im having difficulty is the beta patching etc , im trying the steps posted a few pages ago , fresh uninstall +install+patches and then dayz etc. I love the prox chat actually working , thats the way it should be and if there ends up being problems with people being obnoxious I hope there is going to be some banning , I mean you cant say its a big kids game or whatever but theres a way it should be played.

Spawning with guns just caused people to go and start killing other people at that spawn until they have get that would get them where they wanted to go.

As for the beta patch, use Six Launcher (on the dayz downloads page). Steam does not like launching the beta patch properly.
