Uhhhggg, anyone know how to save filter preferences in six updater? Not launcher but the updater.

The DayZ launcher does not have an option to filter by beta version.

Damn...I just bought this game just because of this mod. Really disappointed

Am I doing something wrong? I like to think I like a nice challenging survival game, but survival needs to at least be possible.

Are there certain types of places that weapons will typically spawn? Finding a weapon is damn near impossible most times. When I do spawn in an area with weapons...then ammo is scarce. Through fire arms are pretty much worthless because if you fire a shot you are typically mobbed by more zombies than you have bullets. Really the crowbar isn't much better since the zombie will make its angry sound and all others wil come running too. It would be nice if we could at least spawn with an improvised club of some kind or at least let you throw a punch (which might not be possible in the ARMA2 engine). Too many times the zombies are in the building I want to search so a low powered noob weapon would really hit the spot. If there is the ever so coveted crowbar in there...a lot of good it will do me.

Can you get away from a zombie? I only managed to shake a train of zombies once by running in one end of a barn and shutting the door as I ran out the other side. However I tried this tactic two other times and they were able to open the door fast enough to keep up with me. I've also tried shutting a door and going prone hoping they will not see me, but they stand there for a few seconds and then notice me. I've also tried just running...I bet I ran 20 miles through the trees and the zombies stuck with me the whole way before I gave up and just respawned.

Can you cure a broken leg? it is crazy. A couple slaps from a zombie and you have a broken leg and then can only low crawl. pain killers and bandages don't help. What are pain killers even for?

Can you heal your "blood" at all? I am hoping food will do this, but I have yet to find any food in the game. Does it only come from killing animals and cooking them? Pepsi and Coke don't heal blood. Once you get too far down you have to respawn anyway since you no longer can see clearly. Really there isn't any point in having 12,000 blood since you are as good as dead after a few hits anyway. If i hit 9000 blood I will just kamikaze my self at zombies hoping to get a few kills in before I die...provided I have any weapon to fight with.

This is one hell of a mod that some one must have put a lot of work into, but it isn't this great and wonderful game that so many people make it out to be.

Here's the thing: you're about a day early for a major bugfix, so there are going to be some fixes to zombie behaviour (such as how easily they can break your leg), but the rest of it is pretty much how the game goes. You need morphine for a broken leg. Painkillers are for a different symptom. Rocket, the developer, nerfed the starting gear with the last major patch, and we're seeing how it goes. He's said that he's looking at unarmed strikes. Zombies will look for you if they lose you, so you need to first break line of sight, and then quietly sneak away. Food restores blood, and if you can get a hunting knife, you can get meat from animals, which you can either cook at a campfire, which you prepare with matches with firewood that you either found or gathered with a hatchet, or you can sometimes find ignitable barrels.

Generally, don't try to kill zombies. Dodge them. If you have to kill them, melee is a good choice because it's quiet. Another player can give you a blood transfusion (you can't do them yourself because they're apparently pretty complicated in real life) if you've found a blood bag, but otherwise, eat to keep your blood up.

In short: this is not a run-and-gun game. Don't worry about how scarce ammo is, because your guns should be reserved for players. If you need to shoot a bunch of zombies, you've screwed up. Read the Day Z wiki for the places to look for weapons, because if you're checking every building, you're going to have a bad time. It's possible, but you'll live longer by carefully choosing your odds.

Oh, and try throwing tin cans and stuff. It'll catch a zombie's attention and maybe open up a path.

So after my last post, I was player killed. I was on 4k blood after falling from the second floor of a barn while being attacked. I turned a corner and saw the player. I immediately typed 'friendly' in the direct communication chat and i dropped my weapon on the floor and then proceeded to lie on the ground to prove I was friendly. He then shot me. So learnt my lesson there.

After having another go, I ran into a player who had just spawned and was looking for a weapon. Trust is really hard to build in this game but I told him to walk in front of me and if he did anything funny, I'd kill him. Later on, he pulled a group of zeds and we both died. GG.

So I've now finally gotten some decent equipment, and managed to crawl through Elektro during peak server hours and loot some buildings before meeting up with a buddy of mine. He had a spare map for me and the last gear required for creating a fireplace and cooking meat. Just be warned that the smoke from the fireplace is extremely noticable. We ran for about 20min into the forest and still double checked that there were no towns nearby on our maps. We then cooked some raw meat (800 blood each) and I performed the blood transfusion on him.

We're now looking for a barracks of some sort to get a second gilly suit as they are extremely good at doing their job. We're staying clear of towns for now and looking for some tents before setting up our camp site.

If you are being chased by zeds, and you arent in the mood of dying or dodging them, you can just run a little while, and then log out and in again, this will despawn the zombies chasing you.
Also note, that when running away from zombies, they cannot hit you, as they have to stop to attack, meaning you will move away from their range if you keep running, therefore you can also dodge their attacks by moving just before they attack, pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

Logging in and out for this purpose is classed as an exploit and will get you banned.

Just run through/around a few buildings and they'll soon lose you.
