Along with screen at ~30-40%. If I want my CPU to max around 50% (which may well actually be 1.2ghz), I'm looking at about 6 hours.
To further convince you, I had an Acer AO722 11.6" netbook. To get it down to ~6Whr of power consumption, the 1ghz dual-core with a 9W TDP was downclocked to 800mhz max speed, brightness was either at the lowest or maybe 10-20%, Windows Classic theme, basic internet only, with a couple tabs. You couldn't get 10 hours of battery with a 9W C-50, downclocked, using a 48Whr battery. At most that would be 8.
If you want the lowest speed Trinity can run at for netbook tasks, you can get 6 hours. If you want a moderate speed bump on-demand, you're talking 5. If you really want good battery life, just ignore any standard-voltage laptop with less than a 56Whr battery.

Thanks for the info. Since I have no interest in laptops and only had one for a VERY short time (traded a 2nd gen 8GB ipod touch for a Compaq CQ-60) I have very little knowledge of the battery life and such. The only reason I'm curious now is because it looks like I may finally have something I find "worth" buying in a laptop with Trinity. I'd like to hear others thoughts as well. Not that I don't trust you, I just like having multiple opinions smile.gif

I wasn't sure if I completely missed something or if you made a mistake. I just read "for a 2nd SSD drive" and was like, wheres the first? heh. But yea, I see the point and I'd do the same. External DVD is fine for a lappy, and an SSD would be a must for me on such a platform.

I'm just hoping Trinity will bring even 80% of what I'm expecting. That coupled with current prices of SSD's going down makes me want to finally get a lappy.

If the prices are right here in Denmark, I would gladly own one. Sell off my current laptop ( i7-2630QM@2.0Ghz, 8 Gb. DDR-1333, 640 Gb. 5400rpm HDD, nVidia GT540, 1920x1080p), and by a Trinity laptop instead smile.gif

This is the G6, which is their entry level model as well. I'm waiting to see the specs on the DV6. Hopefully it has a even better discrete card.

If you want to get down to 6W (what you'd need with a 48Whr battery to get 8 hours), you're looking at battery life similar to Brazos 11.6" netbooks, which is insane.

I see how your remarks make sense but I would argue that process improvements and the new Resonant Clock Mesh technology (not present in the i3) alongside AMD ZeroCore GPU technology would bring everything really close.

AMD ZeroCore is now on VLIW4? This is new to me, please share. You're just getting your hopes up if you expect over about 6-7 hours from a 48Whr battery in a 35W 14"+ Trinity laptop.

I won't argue about it further, simply stating what my AMD C-50 netbook used in terms of power consumption - note it's a 9W APU at stock 1ghz, and I had it downclocked to 800mhz. (tested it after 1-2 cycles, pretty much brand new - took battery capacity / battery life to get power consumption). Is it possible something with a 14-15" screen and 35W quad can also use 6W? Perhaps, but I'm quite doubtful, considering that would be something like a 40% increase in battery life without a die shrink as compared to Llano. If you're taking these numbers off an AMD slide just remember that they're making statements that cover several different lines, and don't necessarily apply to each different line. AMD's "12 hour battery life" claim is probably based on 17W Trinity with an 8-cell or 66Whr battery. If their 17W Trinity's got more than 12 hours, and the 35W Trinity's got 12, AMD would state the higher number, or specify and state both.

the biggest problem with AMD laptops. OEMs, y so dumb?

umm what?? That has nothing to do with AMD and all to do with manufacturer. We sell a crap load of amd's at my work that are 1080p and just a few intel that are 1080p. its all specific to the manurfacturer, not the cpu....

How much do 1080p Llano laptops run usually?
